Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

Hi all,

I was going to create a new post, but I'm new to the forum so need my 15 posts so hoping I can get some feedback here in the meantime. I have an '05 4runner that just got a clean bill of health and the wife bought another car so I get to play with this one. I want to turn it into a decent offroad machine while also able to drive around town.

Basically the only thing I know is that I want a 3" lift and have already ordered rock sliders. I need shocks, wheels and tires. I found a blog with a picture of a truck I liked and here is the build they have:

-FJ 16/7.5 wheels

-BFG KO's in 265/75R16, Donahoe Racing Coilovers with a 2.5" life adn rear 2.0 shocks and 2" lift springs (now known as ICON vehicle dymanics).

I don't know what any of this means or if these are good parts? Do you guys have an opinion on these or is there somewhere I could learn more about this? Basically just wanting to get the car done and go play with it....I'm a noob at mechanical stuff on cars... Really appreciate any feedback!

Hello and welcome, read through this post lots of info. Good luck!

Trying to decide between Bilstein 5100's and ToyTec springs or OME kit? Thoughts? The Bilsteins and ToyTec set up is about 150 bucks cheaper.

bilsteins with OME springs all day - unless you need heavy duty springs. otherwise stuff like 883 884 895 895e with bilstein 5100, tough to beat really. no need to use 5100 height notches either.

Overland i threw that out there noticing he mentioned costs. the kit i brought up, all from amazon, can be had for $684. I got new $30 top hats as well so just over $700. If he wants to spend another 20-40% got for it though. i heard OME struts are nice. if i had to go complete kit by one company id run the OME setup. i must say though - really happy with my 5100s/ome 883/895e, and kyb top hats. yeww

Just pulled the trigger on this set up. Wheeler Off Road has the Bilsteins on sale got the whole kit (new top plates and bushings included) hopefully I'll install it next weekend.

out on the trail

Whats going on everyone! Finished up my setup and took her out to the trail today for a little shackdown

2019 tacoma trd offroad shocks with 2inch spacers in the front and daystar 1.5 in the rear. Still have stock shocks in the rear but Bilstein 5100 are on the way :thumb3:

How much are you rubbing with those 34's? Are you rubbing a ton when you're wheeling? Did you re-gear? I love the setup man.

I had to do some trimming and BMC but no rubbing at full flex. I didn’t feel the difference going from 32s to 34s with the V8.

I have headers and y pipe going on soon that will help gain back any power lost.

Thanks man! Surprisingly, it's not disconnected. The only rear upgrades I have are the Toytec Boss Shocks, Dobinson Springs, & Toytec Aluminum Bump Stop Blocks. Thoroughly impressed with the articulation from an inexpensive upgrade.

which dobinsons are you running in the back? Obviously the off road performance is good, how do you feel about the on road ride?

I don't recall the exact number but they are the 3" medium duty springs. Ever since I added the Wilco, full-size spare, hi-lift, gas tank, and water tank in the rear I've noticed a bit of sag in the back. With all the extra weight, I will be upgrading to heavier rear springs. Having said that, they're great!

Hope this helps.

Are you at a solid 3" lift? I still rub with 33's when I stuff but i'm only running a 2" spring in the rear and then leveled in the front. It doesn't rub bad enough to do anything about it but it would be unacceptable if my tire was any bigger. what springs are you running?

I'm running the Dobinson C59-677V which gave me 3" lift in the rear.

The tire will still travel the same path with a 2" spring as a 3" spring if you are truly fully compressed. There should be no rubbing differences between the two springs.
