Lift and UCA questions

I found a Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift new and 2011 FJ coils and Tokiko shocks and can get everything for $275 and was wondering if with this much lift, I would need new UCA's? Also I wanted to know what you guys thought as far as price for both the FJ coils and shocks and the Daystar kit both being new if you thought $275 was a good deal. Thanks for any and all input

Yup I got my grinder reAdy to thin out those lower strut bushings. If I were to switch out the front spacer for 5100s at 2.5 would I need ucas?

My understanding is no. I am planning on doing the same thing with FJ coils and 5100s at 1.75 up front. Might even throw a 1/4 top off spacer up front. Shouldn't need UCAs I also have 1.5" wheel spacers.

In the back I am planning 5100s FJ coils and 1.5" spacer. I am interested to see how yours turns out!!! Good Luck.

I have the DS 2.5 lift now and have the FJ springs off a 07 on their way to me now. There's about 30k miles on the springs and I'm thinking I'll be a touch over 3" once installed. I suspect alignment will be difficult to achieve to keep me from wandering, but we shall see.

All in all the 2.5 DS + FJ Coils is not that common of a lift combo on here. Let's keep this thread going of our findings once we get them installed and see if we can help some people out for the future.

I know there's at least 2 others running this combo so maybe they can chime in.

I have the DS 2.5/1.5 and installed without UCAs at first. I wasn't able to get the caster to spec and at highway speeds it was a little squirly. I have SPC UCAs now and 3.0 deg+ on caster, drive awesome.

I have a 2.5" Daystar kit for all four corners BUT because I live in the Boston area, all of the salt has wreaked havoc on the nuts and bolts of my suspension. I've tried thrice to install the lift on the front and have had the following outcomes: no luck, two broken socket handles (separate occasions), a broken finger from my impact ratchet getting away from me.... All I've achieved so far is rounded-off nuts and climbing levels of frustration.

Anyone else dealt with corrosion issues? This is driving me insane... I WANT MY LIFT!!

Thanks,
Alex

Alex-

I was in the same boat with corrosion on my '05 4Runner. When I installed my lift, I had no air tools or impact ratchets (or even ratchet wrenches for that matter, they would have sped things up a little bit lol). I soaked all the nuts and bolts in PB Blaster for a couple of days, then used 3' cheater bars to give me some extra leverage where I needed it (mostly on the top nuts on the shocks).

On the rear shocks, I ended up torquing the top nut so hard that it snapped the threaded portion of the shock off completely. On the front shocks, I didn't even bother trying to unbolt the (3) the strut mount bolts on each side. Instead I went with the no-spring compressor method and just removed the top nut (took some extreme leverage) and bottom nut/bolt and slid the shock and spring out the bottom. Not sure if this is possible for installing the DS 2.5/1.5 spacers.

If I hadn't been completely replacing the shocks anyways, I would have been **** outta luck with the broken rear shocks. Anyways, I highly recommend soaking all the bolts in penetrant beforehand and having a spare piece of pipe or whatnot for some extra torque. And plan on breaking stuff in the process lol. Good luck.

/end thread-jack. Sorry to the OP.

Thanks for all the help on my questions. I decided to stay away from the spacers to avoid any CV or any other problems down the road but I bought a whole FJ 4x4 susp with springs and shocks for $110 so I am excited to do that then add 5100's up front and a 1inch spacer in the rear. Just waiting on money for tires

Thanks for the info and I'm glad to see I'm not alone!

I bought new bolts from my local Toyota dealer, went to sears, and bought a nut cracker. I'm so sick and tired of this stupid chemical reaction kicking my a$$! Hopefully I can break the UCA bolt and get it out of the way.

Now what you've told me about the top of the strut is scaring me. I don't want to say goodbye to my X-RAES yet!

I've tried PB blaster, WD40, a 6' iron pipe, air tools, fire, cursing... Nothing has worked so I'm just going to cut those bas****s off!

Now to wait for the snow to melt and the sun to shine and the birds to $hit on my meticulously detailed truck!

Thanks again,
Alex
