Lifted and Ready!

Looks awesome! Mind if I ask you how much the lift ran you with the install? I'm looking at doing the same thing to mine. :D

Without looking at the invoice, I recall it being around $1,100 for the kit and $250 for the install. ToyTec doesn't deal on their systems very well so whether you buy direct from them, an indy shop, or a dealer (yup, Toyota dealers sell these), the price was within $50.

You need to plan on alignment too...that can vary cost-wise of course.

So you bailed on XREAS altogether? And you think it was worth it, cornering-wise? Very curious re: XREAS v. custom lift.

OK, just back from a couple of hours driving around town and on the highway running errands, etc.

Handling in heavy traffic and irregular construction zone roads - Perfect, just feels higher (because it is). Handling at all speeds actually feels better than stock...at least after you get used to the MUCH wider tire feel.

Handling on the highway at 65 - 80 mph, perfect. No wander, less tendency to track the messed-up surfaces we deal with here in CO. Zero shimmy or twitchiness.. Yes, you feel the size of the tires, but it's very solid and controlled.

ALL turns are 100% better roll-wise...this really surprised me! The XREAS was night and day between non-XREAS stockers and this ToyTec Ultimate setup takes away the roll even better. It is really surprisingly stable. Yeah, it's not my BMW 550i, but it is really great for a rig this size. VERY pleased.

That was me behind you on 32nd street. The pictures do not do it justice, looks better in person.

Ha! Awesome...I figured you were just another guy waving! I live right over there...let's grab that beer soon. Maybe in at Meade Street or El Camino!

I am noticing that I feel a little nose-high as I drive. Now, I am not going to bust-out the tape measure yet as I am lugging around all 4 OE wheels and tires in the back at the moment. I have a hard time believing that amount of weight would cause the sensation of nose-up, but before I measure, I will get them out of there (shipping to their new owner tomorrow).

I understand that I can adjust the FRONT down only and that the rear is stuck where it is...can go UP, but not down in the rear. Hmmmm.

I had the same issue about taking my mom once in a while. I did the N-fab side step. Then started off roading and banged it up a bit. Now I have demello bump out sliders. They work great as a side step, door protector when parking in tight spots, and what they were made to really do. Slide over rocks. BTW rig looks niiiiiiccccceeeee.

Congrats SgnDen! Looks fantastic! What a difference! :thumb3:

I loved my 275 AT/3's and do miss them on my rig. Efing great tires. Once I went to 285 Duratracs I lost MPG's as well as power along with more noise. Not dissing either tire but there are trade-offs with everything. Bottom line is you made a great choice and are going to love those tires.

As for assistance in getting into the lifted rig - you might also think about the Bud Built Bump-Outs with the full tread plate. Man I can't tell you how awesome those things are! Pricey and of course you would need to trim your rocker panels... but I can't speak highly enough of them. Small kids have no problem clambering up, and they help immensly on accessing the top of the vehicle. I don't have real good shots of them on my profile... but I'm in Lafayette if you wanna see them in person.

Again, congratulations. You are going to love the upgrade for years to come!

Thanks Frosty!

I am 6'1" and my s/o is a long-legged 5'7" Irish gal (Redhead - sorry had to throw that in there) so we don't have an issue though I don't like smashing the seat bolster so much every time. I weigh-in at 270 so it doesn't stand a chance anyway - ha.

I am def looking at a bump-out style rail with full tread. I would LOVE to see them in person. Not crazy about the idea of hacking into the rockers but I am much LESS crazy about them being anything but very snug up to the body.

I work in Boulder so, sure, if you have a second it would be great to rendezvous and see what they look like IRL.

Sounds good! Maybe we can get a few other front rangers to join too?

Yeah, I just responded to ColoradoFrosty about connecting to see his Bud Build setup. When he responds, maybe we can coordinate later this week while the weather is still so freakishly great!

I do want to say thanks to QJake for some post way-back-when where he emphasized to not worry about losing XREAS as the right setup more than compensates and actually performs better in the areas XREAS was helping with.

Of course, the new suspension does MUCH more but at the time I was thinking about doing just spacers so I cold keep the XREAS.

You are more than correct QJake! Thanks man.

Needless to say, your new truck is gorgeous, and "A Real Head Turner"!

Okay, let me see if I understand correctly. By you adding a 3" lift kit, were there some Toyota suspension parts that needed to be removed/replaced, causing X-REAS to be eliminated?

Or, is it that with the truck's new standing height, the 4Runner suspension system's "effective range of motion" is so far out of calibration now, that the X-REAS operating range is no longer within relativity, or just completely compromised?? Hope this makes sense?!
: /
Also: Does your new lift kit employ something special to control; wheel hop, body sway, fishtail, nose dive, and all around "Road Stability"?? Please pardon my ignorance; I've never driven, or ridden in anything with an aftermarket lift.

Hey Rig:

I am far from an expert in suspension but maybe this will help. If you want to get more technical there are certainly a few guys out there with very strong technical knowledge. A few searches and you'll come across it I imagine.

XREAS - This relies on lines that connect the system around the platform and compensates for/counteracts body roll. Just imagine a piston on each side of the system that reacts as it is pressurized when the body weight rolls in that given direction. When you LIFT, you move the body so as to make the lines not reach, so it needs to be disconnected. This is why I originally had planned to go with spacers that would not lift so high. I have used spacers on my past 3rd Gens and they were "ok" but a LOT rougher ride and pre-loading the coils is sort of a poor way to lift...not that it would cause huge issues but just feels stop-gap to me vs "doing it right".

The Toytec Ultimate replaces several stock suspension parts. Just look at the kit parts list on the Toytec website (or anywhere they are sold) and there's your answer. I of course had the shop save and give me the take-off parts...the biggies are the OE Coil Springs, and Shocks. Did NOT need to do UCA's. I am not doing anything hard-core with this thing.

I'll tell you this, though (see my thank you to Qjake), I do NOT miss the XREAS one bit! In fact, body roll, even with this new stance and height, is MORE reduced that it was with the stock setup and XREAS. Not really a bug feature IMHO, youe, XREAS was a BIG diff compared to an SR5 but the delta between XREAS and Toytec Ultimate setup is even more profound.

Hope that helps (and makes sense)!

SgnDen,

Your explanation, though brief, has me truly intrigued, and curious enough to consider upgrading my trucks suspension system (if that were possible), but perhaps without the lift; to remain stock height.

As I have said in previous posts, I love the way the L.E. performs, e.g...around curves, with it's highly refined "Road Manners", and it's ability to sprint from 0 to 80 mph in only seconds; frankly, I don't get it when ppl are listing "power or acceleration" as one of this trucks downsides, or "CONS"; oops, getting off-topic, sorry for the rant.

I plan to research "Toytec's ultimate set-up", and would really appreciate it if you would continue to keep us up to date as you become more familiar with the way this modified L.E. feels, with consideration to a major upgrade; the truck should also be "settllng-in" as the springs, and other parts, find their equilibrium.

Thanks much, rigtec

Oh BTW, you might want to look into a short antenna; there's one that's really good, goes by the name of "AntennaX"!! It's made of hard rubber, it's 13" long (don't say it), and it's called, "The Euro" for the 4Runner.

Go to AntennaX.com. figure you being up so high now, you could use a shorter antenna.

Great! I have casually poked around (don't say it) for some diff antenna setups but bailed quickly as ya can't tell Jack from most if the images and descriptions I saw.

I'll get one ordered up tonight. Now that have a few inches more (yeah, yeah) the buggy whip antenna is hitting the garage door every time.

My brother put cooper zeon's on his Landrover LR3......they look really badass! I noticed they make them in 285 70 17. Has anyone bought these??
