Limited Edition Mod Thread

Long time lurker, finally decided on which trim package to go with when buying my 4runner. Once I saw the redwood interior, I was hooked. I just had to get over the chrome and skinny tires. Big thanks to all the members on here for sharing their pictures and experiences as it was a major help. This will likely not be as amazing as a build as most members on here as I live in flat NW Louisiana and only occasionally find myself on ranch/farm road/camping sites.

Mods so far:
- 17" trail rims from another member
- Toyo Open Country AT2s - 265/70R17 - Had the KO2s on my wrangler and liked them but the toyos were a more practical choice for my daily driving
- canvasback liner
- Toyota rubber mats
- plastidip running boards

Future mods:
- Possible spacer/shock replacement. Purely for stance and appearance. Have read multiple threads with pros/cons. Will wait awhile and let the mod budget replenished.
- Possible dechroming of the front bumper strip
- some type of tubular running boards

No advantage really. I used a top mount spacer to lift the strut, which is the same thing Daystar is doing - and actually their spacer design is easier to mount because you don't have to compress the spring and rotate the top hat. The Toytec uses a different method, a preload spacer - which is not preferred with the X-REAS fluid balance. Preloads are usually installed to protect the CVs, but I used a diff drop instead - Daystar doesn't address the CV angles but it can be debated whether or not it's needed at 2-3". I like the return to factory-like geometry with the diff correction. Also, Daystar doesn't address the rear shock being extended in the X-REAS system.

Those are both fine kits, but don't fully address the X-REAS (wouldn't use the toytec without removing X-REAS). My 2 cents. Hope that helps.

Well, it sounds like what you did is much better. I bet if you were to put together an official "kit", you could sell a ton of them.
 
For those with a early 5th gen [2010 to 2013] have you successfully done a TE or Shrockworks rocker trim conversion? If so, can you please post pix and tell me which kit you used?

What about mounting a TRD Pro aluminum skid plate?

Direct from Gobi, I know you don’t want to hear this but it took 15 weeks. Yup no shit, but I’ll have to say that the install and finish product is awesome.

Agreed on the 15 week delivery. However, They threw in the sun roof rack/panel for free in account for delaying the order.
The install was a breeze and looks great!

A whole lotta playing around but I got it to work really great. Start off with aftermarket headlights so they can be opened and easily resealed. NEVER try the OEM light. Basically impossible due to the permaseal they use. Then source out some LED,s and modules and just play around. Really happy with mine and this is only version 1. Working on a much cooler set at the moment
 
will I be the first one to try this? cutting out a slot in the front chrome bumper cover and will insert a custom made aluminum housing into the hole where the light bar will be held. gonna look very clean and be very functional (doesnt block rad etc.). Pictures as soon as the aluminum box is ready and im brave enough to start cutting into the bumper cover. Pumped about the end result

Interested to see how this turns out. Sounds like it could be very cool.
