Limited manual trans swap

I've searched the swap threads but still aren't sure.

If I swap a manual into my 2000 limited, can I keep the multi mode transfer case? Or will I need te standard case that came with manuals.

don't quote me on this but i don't think you can, because of the computerization. Still trying to figure out the 3rd gen's after coming form the 2nd gen since i totaled mine

Yeah the ECU and wiring will be your biggest issue. All the auto to manual swaps I saw replaced the auto ECU with manual - but you can't do that as you need the multimode ECU...

Are there limited 5-speeds with multi-mode that you could pull a tranny from to do the swap without losing that functionality?

No. There aren't any limiteds that have a manual transmission stock. That was never an option from the factory.

On my 98 I have no multi mode, no locking diff, and 4wd is with the lever, not push putton. Would the manual swap be fairly straight forward? (sorry to hijack)

That may be, but last week when I was driving in 10*f degree weather on a snaking mountain road with dry/ice/snow mix of conditions at all times that AWD function in the multimode was fantastic to have in my '00 LTD.

Just set it and forget it.

Eh, I'll just put it in 4wd and lock the hubs.

If I'm that worried about it.

Then, if fit hits the shan, I'll just lock her up.

I figured it wouldn't work. Oh well, I was just curious if I could save $$$ by not buying a new transfer case. I'm not even set on doing it yet.

Is it possible to keep the console looking stock by leaving the limited wood(plastic lol) and the new shifter and transfer case boots will match up?

Doubt the center would matchup. Would have to source that from on the manuals or modify yours to fit and maybe make a custom boot to cover over all of it.

I don't believe so. Could be wrong but I think if you have a mechanical transfer case you would be okay.

Just ground the neutral on the PN switch. You will also have the benefit of not having to put in a clutch cancel switch too

Anything is possible. Here's a pic from an old for sale thread of a built 4runner, looks like he figured out how to make it work.

I just sent him an email asking about the specs.
