went to penrose a couple weeks ago and did liberty trail. was a lot of fun, definitely one of the hardest trails i've done

Those are all really good looking trucks and that trail looks challenging but fun. What kind of steering issues are you having? I just bought a first gen a couple weeks ago and it has high steer done already but the steering is real loose and sketchy. I am waiting for my bushing kit to come in and hoping that will help but I need some suggestions on where to start on dialing it in. The steering wheel is not centered and it floats all over the place, I am not new to lifted trucks so I know this is not a big tire/lift issue. Something is not right in the steering, any ideas?
I didn't catch it the first time I looked at this thread but just realized your here in Colorado. I would love to get together some time and run a trail with you guys, I come from the FJ world and have a lot to learn about solid axle wheeling and just what the 1st gen can do.

sounds like bushings or tie rod ends, but could also be the steering box. with the truck off toggle the wheel back and forth and see how much play there is in the steering wheel before it engages, toyota spec is somewhere around 1" if i remember right. there's a screw on the box to tighten up the play. if thats not it, then its gotta be in the drag link/tie rod

thanks guys, it was a fun time for sure, its hard to believe I was camping/wheeling only a month and a half ago....its been below freezing for weeks over here.

haha i keep telling him that but he has 5 kids and a wife so that limits his options. i gotta say, its kinda fun to get his rig up trails; he gets a lot of looks. He's getting tired of breaking though so he may come over to our side eventually....

as for me, not much of an update but i've started tinkering in the garage again to prepare for summer. got a lot of maintenance issues taken care of, fixed my "no start click" issue finally after dealing with it for 3 years. then came some bad news...
did a compression check just to see how she's holding up, and i'm getting 90-100psi.

some of that may be the altitude, but i think i'm going to be looking into a long block next winter.
