Some of the ones we have here in VA are leaking so bad we are having the customers come back on 500 miles to check instead of 1,000. I know we have done 3 or 4 tear downs to date and only had to put bearings in one of them.

Wow, 500 miles is not far at all.

I have also found through trial and error that this engine is quite picky with the type of oil it uses. Ultimately Valvoline full syn 5w-20 keeps the consumption to a minimum along with some Mos2.

In all though the engine is just is a bad design out of the gate and needs to be shelved. My neighbor's wife has one in her 07 Rav4 and I can hear the thing coming a mile away.

The issue was when they honing out the walls of the cylinders they put the wrong pistons in once the cutting tool had worn down some. SO the motors were getting the wrong sets of pistons put in them and wrong size rings.
