Looking for aftermarket fender flares

Hello,
I just picked up a '98 that has no running boards or trim that comes on the upgraded option packages. Don't know much about 4runners in general but I have seen pics of aftermarket flares in black that look pretty good. I have owned a tundra and found similar ones on ebay but have had no luck with the 4runner so far. Anybody know the best site to find these? Working on a limited budget since this is my son's 1st car. Thanks!!

Bushwhacker is your only bet for aftermarket flares. And unfortunately, they're pricey. You can look at junkyards and the classified section, sometimes a black set of SR5 flares will pop up for a decent price.

Either way, you'll be drilling holes.

Don't all 4runners come with holes under the fender? I thought the only time you'd have to drill holes is with limited flares. I know on the rear doors, SR5 have clips holding them on, no holes needed. And the rest screw up from the bottom.

I have Bushwacker Flares

I had the misfortune of taking out one of my bushwacker flares on nasty tree attack while trailing through some deep snow this past winter. Unfortunately, bushwacker does not sell individual pieces, however when a production run permits they will sell half set of either front or back set for.....wait for it....$200, ouch. With a new compete set at $500, I patiently searched for months and finally found a opened box unndamaged compete set on amazon for $190 shipped.

Yes, there is drilling to install the door pieces and painting if you chose. IMO, the quality and fit is perfect. Remember, measure, place and position several times before taking the drill to the panels. No worries, it is a simple process that gives instant results

Yes, there are holes aligned with the OEM black SR5 flares screw positions and clips use to secure the chrome/rubber fender trim alike. However the bushwacker flares come with self tapping metal screws, giving the installer options for positioning the flare for a tight close fit. Having said that, the holes size made by the sheetmetal screws as opposed to the OEM screws differ in size and one should avoid aligning for obvious reasons.

Hard to believe there is basically only one aftermarket choice. The bushwackers look very nice but I'm not sure about the $400 price tag. Will probably keep searching for a used set. Thanks for the replies!

I had a set if Bushwacker flares on one of mine. I spent about 8 hours test fitting, trimming and sanding them. The spent another $300 to have them painted. If I had to do it again, I'd just by a used set if the black SR5 plastic flares.
