We're still looking high and low but it certainly looks like we've misplaced one of the keys to our '11 4Runner. I dread going to the Toyota store and having a replacement made/programmed. Has anyone done this and lived? What is the going rate for new keys with all the electronics inside?

Don't take my word for it, but I think its something around the price of 3 tanks of gas. I'm guessing this will vary from stealer to stealer.
I think I paid ~$100 each to a local lock/key smith for two "valet" keys (no remote lock/unlock buttons... a "basic" transponder key that will open doors and start the engine) for my 2012. Price included the blank, cutting, and programming the key.
I was told by the smith that programming the new "G" keys was somewhat tricky, and they were not always successful. But both of mine work fine.

I bought a blank key from Autotransponder.com for $21. The 3 Button remote is about $188. You may want to just get a key only.
The problem is getting the key cut and programmed. I was able to have a junk yard key guy cut it for $2. The problem is the programming. The dealer wanted $75. Some locksmiths can program the new key too but charge a lot.
I ended up buying a cable and disk on ebay for the Toyota TIS system for $28 and programmed it myself.
A lot of messing around but it worked and kept me under $50.
There are posts on this forum about the TIS cable and program. With that you can also reprogram some of the custom settings like seat belt alarm, cabin light duration and others.

Earlier this year I lost one also. Searched all over and then bought two blank Toyota "G" keys for $50 from this seller on the 'Bay:

Called around to the various locksmiths etc and found a guy that coded/cut both for $45. Total: $95 for two keys, plus programming.

Be careful about loading too many keys on the car.
•A maximum of 8 key codes for 5 master keys and 3 sub-keys (Valet) can be registered

Not true, many locksmiths have the necessary equipment to program Toyota "G" keys. I HIGHLY recommend NOT going to the dealer (stealer) to get this done.

I congratulate you on being an exception, I get it, if it worked for one person, it must work for everyone the same.
Dealerships I work with seeing people like who were less fortunate in their bays often. If programming does not go well, it can wipe out the master keys.
Funny enough, I just had a conversation about this with a master tech this Saturday.

Just found the extra key to my 2011 SR5 I lost before I sold it in March. Going to send it to the new owner this week. I knew it would turn up but I've looked (almost) everywhere.
Also had a chipped key for my Jeep on the same ring that I've already replaced, so it was a good day to clean my office chair and lift up the cushion!
