Lost Keys please please help

I'll share my 99 limited experience.Car broken into keys stolen, which was my only key.

Toyotas with the immobilizer option for a couple years only could make keys off of keys. So new ecu and new keys. Toyota did a 1,time freebie on the ecu so it was about 600 for keys remote and labor.

Fun times...

I guess its nice to know though my 4runner can't hardly be started without my keys.

Did 3rd gens have a different key for the door and ignition? Mine does, but it was bought at auction so that may be why. Wondering if providing the VIN# to dealership will work for me to get a spare cut. Sorry for thread jack.

No, all three original keys would work ignition and doors. Valet key would not unlock glove box (and maybe rear window--I read this but I have never got around to trying it).

Odds are your ignition lock was replaced and a key cut from VIN just won't work in ignition either.
