So far the new axles are holding up well. We're still waiting for the first break but as of now I think it's safe to say there's enough comfort to add in a CV for the ’96-’02 4Runner and ’95.5-’04 Tacoma with manual hubs. Should be available within a few weeks.
Springtime is around the corner and Moab is beckoning. Can't wait to get back out there and wheel some of the harder lines again. Hooaaah!

You can find CV's for $50. CV's that break. Repeatedly.
You cannot find these CV's for $50, however. CV's that don't seem to be breaking.

You guys must be doing something wrong, you should be reporting exploded front diffs and other 'next weakest link' parts failing.

The axles we made up for ADD have been working well and we just added in the Lotus Development axles for ’96-’02 4Runner and ’95.5-’04 Tacoma rigs with Manual hubs. They will be available on March 21st, 2013.
I'm so looking forward to another trip out to Moab. I think 1/3 of us out there will have these axles. Should be great to get some hard rock crawling in!

Essentially the same as for the A.D.D. version of the CV axle. Thicker steel in the cage, new race, and chromoly parts. Over 6 times stronger components in the outer joint where failure normally occurs.

Allright. We got our first break of the LD chomoly axle over the last weekend. Thanks to Dirtco for providing some photos and an account of the broken axle.
There's some discoloring in/on the steel of the broken outer housing. That might be nothing but we're going to look into it and see if maybe there were cracks in the housing from previous wheeling, defect(s) in the steel, or maybe something else. My money was on the inner axle shaft as the most likely break followed by the inner tripod housing. This is the first outer housing I've heard of breaking.
Dirtco, sorry you were the first to break the axle but in another way I'm kinda glad it was you. You're a good wheeler and you wheel as hard as you do smart so it's a good reference for feedback on the axle.

I haven't looked at it yet. Probably will have time tomorrow. Dircto said that he thought the cage stayed intact. I'll post up when I find out more.
