I know of one...Mercedes G500 brochure! You will not find anything that is 8.3" off the ground under my G. The angles are all wrong too (on the conservative side). But, that's another rant for another time.

What type of clearance does the G have ? or stated to have or what you have measured ?

Internetautoguide.com states the 06 4R at 8.7" , so where the hell are they measuring from. Add a set of 265/70's ????????? got me ........

My approach/departure angle's are measured differently too. I measure them from when I scrape my front bumper and when I scrape my hitch ... lol.

I think the clearance on the 4R ( whatever it may be ) isn't to bad , compared to some SUVs out there really look low , but maybe thats a visual thing too. I'm still amazed at what it will tackle stock with a decent set of tires .... now all I need to do is get a decent set of tires ...

I agree. The new SUVs & trucks sure look low these days. I guess the car-crash compatibility has something to do with it. But, i think that the overhype publicity from rollovers (Newsline, 20/20, Consumer Reports,etc.) have made the manufacturers go into a panic state and have thus resulted in wide low SUVs. Jeeps (except Wrangler) look like they can pick up roadkill!

My prediction...you will see more and more SUVs with active (aka air) suspension. This is a way to join crash compatibility requirements and off-road ability. On the road, your SUV is in the "low" position for handling, safety, and ease of entry/exit, but off-road, you can jack it up sky high.

I measured with a caliper not a tape measure. Then layed it on a ruler to double check.


I would bet my last buck that you will not find a brochure or whatever that specs out a vehicle where the truth is not stretched.

No one even knows how the mfg's even come up with these #'s and where they measure from.

I know what you mean about the Jeep. My friend just bought a GC , and I thought it was 2wd because its so low in front. ( its 4x4 ) Look at the New Tahoe and even the Avalanche 4x4 , they look like you could plow 4" of snow with it.

With that being stated , the 4R is not to shabby.

The Revos are not going to be any taller.

I've been under the whole truck 2x and am really not concerned for a 1/4" or whatever to climb under it again . The tape measure will be less accurate than the caliper was .

It gets me where I want to go , thats all that really matters to me. I dont want to get into a pissin match over it so I'll call it 8+" and be done with it.

By the way I went front to back .

This is, no doubt, an excruciatingly boring thread to most people, but your presence(s) on it led me to believe you wanted to pursue it. Personally, I find it somewhat more than irrelevant that my 4runner is 3/4 inch lower than yours.

Like I said I'll call it 8+ , maybe I'm still looking at the wrong spot , must be if everyone tells me so.

IMO there is no way you should be lower or higher , we have exactly the same truck , can't even blame it on different colors .... lol.
