Don't let the window sticker fool ya. It's hard to get those numbers in the real world. Unfortunately, the V8 is even harder to get those types of numbers in the real world.

I disagree; I found that those numbers are actually pretty accurate in the real world. I had both models and consistently got 16 to 22 mpg (city to highway) with the V6, and I am getting 15 to 20 (city to highway) with the V8. All mileage figures are hand calculated, 40psi in the Dunflops, 87 octane, and top speed no greater than 70mph. I found the computer to be, on average, 7% optimistic. No fooling!

I was just referring to the EPA figures for the 4Runner, no other makes. If you look at a sampling of the responses on this thread you find that most of us get pretty close to the same mileage numbers. The common thread seems to be conservative driving. When you get aggressive, with the 4Runner's capability, it has the capacity to burn a lot more fuel, but you're amply rewarded for it by it's performance.

I have used 87 octane in my V8 4Runner since the day I bought it.
Even towing my enclosed car trailer, fully loaded, up mountains with a headwind the V8 using 87 octane has performed well.

Went to test drive this morning, drove home with the Sport V8 AWD. 31.5k for the car + tax + tag, options with spoiler, moonroof, carpet, vis alarm,. sticker price is 36k. did i do well guys? future mod. probably hid, and navi
