Meguiars tech wax...thoughts...experience

I picked up some meguiars tech wax to wax up the new 4r and before I do I thought I'd see if anyone had tried it and what they thought?

Great product for both shine and durability, in my opinion. I've used Mequiar's waxes for the past 30 years (had Auto Detailing Biz for a decade) and this is one of the easiest to use out of their product line. My new Trail got a coat of it the day after I brought it home.

FYI - that product is a sealant, not a wax. If you don't know the difference, here's a good article: Carnauba Car Wax vs. Paint Sealants, carnauba wax reviews, paint sealant reviews
A lot of folks like to follow up a sealant with a wax, but either way you go I would recommend using clay first to prep the surface - it will help the products adhere to the surface better/last longer: Auto detailing clay, detail clay bar, clay lubricant, Pinnacle Poly Clay, Wolfgang, auto detail clay, meguiar's detailing clay, auto clay bar

For wax I highly recommend Collinite 845:Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax very easy to work with, and lasts longer than any liquid wax I've ever tried.

It is Meguiar's!

Tech Wax is great stuff for the price and they also have a new "Ultimate Wax" that I want to try. I have used their detail spray products with good results. The only product that really bothers me is their cheapest car wash which leaves an odd film on the paint.
 
The tech wax is great on dark or bright colors, as it will not swirl. However, the paint needs to be extremely clean, meaning not even the slightest hint of bird or tree stuff, etc. or it will just trap it in. It will not get anything out that even a standard carnauba wax will, so you need to go around the car with a cleaner wax or mild compound to remove any any residual spots that washing won't remove. I like it, as it is extremely easy to work with and won't leave white marks on trim. Also, as with any wax, I prefer the paste over the liquid.

845 looks great and protects well. I was disappointed by its longevity though. I use zaino on cars now and 845 on my gun collection. I dont recommend zaino though. The activator product annoys me.

Rejex is good too for longevity but looks is meh.

I haven't tried it yet, but they make a paste wax that is supposed to last a lot longer than the 845. I just like the 845 because it is so quick and easy that I don't mind doing it more often.
 
I have been using Malco Products for the past 10 to 12 years on my Dark colored Honda's and they have been really good. The Malco Rejuvenator product works great at removing mild surface imperfections.

If you have heavy swirls, I would recommend Malco Restore-It. It is really hard to find these days in smaller sizes.

I need to check into the Chemical Guys since I have been hearing a lot about them recently. The 4Runner is coming due for a full detail soon.

Pinnacle leaves a beautiful finis... Durability is measure in days ime.

I was a Zaino fan for a few years, used it on my Harleys. Prettiest finish you'll ever see...but it didn't last very long, and man did it attract dust!

I agree with you about the activator, it's a PITA to apply too.

I've been using Turtle Wax Ice for a few years now, on both my cars/trucks and bikes. Easy to apply, easy to remove, you can apply it directly on textured surfaces without leaving any residue, and it seems to last for a decent period.

Most durability I've had is 2 years on a garaged car and 8 months or so on an outside car.

Z1 was better and cheaper. I use it minus activator. First coat sucks that way though.

Does ok on dust with their detail spray.


I think their Sales dropped when they went to activator simply from the fact i stopped championing the product. I converted lots of folks back in the day.
 
I switched to Meguiars Ultimate Wax earlier this year and will never use anything else again. It goes on easy and has very little residue when taking off. It leaves no white streaks around trim etc. I use the complete line of Meguiars products. Most of the items can be found at Walmart so no running around trying to find them.
 
I only use Megs Gold Class paste wax. For roughly 10 bucks a pop you can't beat it. The tech wax is fine for the price, but if I am going to spend the time to wax I am going to get the "good stuff."
 
When I had my Jeep Wrangler I was using Meguiar's Gold Class Paste Wax. Stained plastic trim and was a pain to buff.

Since I bought the 4R in March 2013 I have been using Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax. As a poster above mentioned, no residue or staining, and it buffs quite easily. The front end of these trucks are bug magnets due to all the paint, but my front end is holding up quite nicely after several thousand miles of road trips. This, combined with the Optimum No Rinse car wash that I use exclusively, seems to provide decent protection. I wax 2-3 times per year- always before and after winter with a second spring coat usually late spring. I also just applied another coat of wax to the front end for protection against bugs.

Used megs tech wax for years. Great stuff. Great on mag gray runner. Sold a 10 year old Lexus recently to a professional detailer. Car wasn't waxed for over 6 months. The guy was a little embarrassed to ask what kind of wax I used cause he uses the expensive pro stuff and he couldn't believe how good an off the store shelf wax could be. I now use megs ultimate. I don't know if it's any better but I do notice it leaves less visible residue on the black plastic trim pieces.
 
Thanks for the recommendation. I picked up meguiars ultimate last night. 22 bucks but I'm very happy with the results.
