Method Wheel Warning

:roadkill:Just a word of warning for anybody installing Method Double Standard wheels. I went to install mine yesterday when problems arose. When installing the rims(post lift install) I failed to spin the wheels to check for clearance. I didn't think I needed to with the rims spec's at 17 x 8.5 6 lug 0mm offset 4.75" backspacing. I made it about 2 feet before realizing something was tragically wrong. So I returned the wheels to Discount Tire. They where very apologetic telling me they should fit. So he called an Method and they said "They should fit BUT we had a problem with a batch of rims. The spokes where manufactured too thick." They'll send out new ones promptly. So just a word of warning if you are installing Method Double Standard rims.

I'd insist on a new caliper if yours is at all damaged. Sadly, most wheel manufacturers nowadays sacrifice quality for cheap labor- tolerances are 3-4mm off of spec before they get rejected.

UPDATE: Second batch of method dbl standards didn't fit. Same issue with brake rub. I'll put out updates when I hear back from method on Monday.

Crazy! There were two current gen's at Overland Expo today running the Methods and it certainly didn't appear that they had any issues. Wonder what's going on!?!??!?!?

I don't know if this does the poster any good or not, but I thought I would post pictures of the aforementioned Methods spotted this Saturday at OX.

I really hope this gets worked out as the Methods are my own #1 option right now!

Yes, Didn't get the double standards. The second and third set of double standards came in. Both of them didn't fit. So I got feed up and ordered split sixes instead. I was worried I wouldn't like them as much, but after a couple weeks I'm completely happy with the sixes. Method said the double standards should work but never did.

I have method double standards being delivered Tomorrow, now I see this WTF :redbrick:. But yet their are pics and reports of 5th gen 4Runners using these wheels? Guess I will find out tomorrow....

**update**

Those mother f*^kers hit on the brake caliper. Manufacture date on them is 6/25/2012. Now to figure out what to do.....

:dammit: :ybrick:

Run spacers, move liner, body mount chop if you still rub.

I just ordered 4 spridertrax 1.25 hub centric spacers. You think these will still clear with 17x8.5 0 offset ? I know I will need to do a fender linear mod and possibly a body mount chop.

You'll be fine, I'm running a 17x9 0 offset with spidertrax. You'll probably still rub either on the body or if you look in my thread, theres a little metal bracket for the rocker panels.

Thanks, now I know I can MAKE them fit. I saw what you posted, that will help me determine how much to cut back since I wont have the spacers until next week and plan on doing the lift install & chop over the weekend so it's ready for next week. I am sure I will have to cut even more though, as I have these damn Limited lower rocker skirts. They will be coming off when I get sliders anyway.
