100% in for badlands trip. Doesn't even have to be that warm, does it? Also, does anyone have winch? We probly shouldn't go winchless

There are a few, but not many. I feel the same way about mine, its my DD so I don't push it and don't want to damage it. That being said, you can easily spend the day out at Badlands. The last time we went, there were 12 of us, all different degrees of mods. No one got left behind...and no damage that I know of.

There's also a place down in Bloomington, at Lake Monroe. Its only a few miles worth of trails though, so it won't take up a full day. Good for a couple guys...

Awesome! I wonder if that is one of the old fire roads, it seems that almost all the ones I've seen are chained off but looks like a couple slipped through. There's a fun little washed out 'driveway' up to a decent shooting spot off of Tower Ridge Road, not far past the lookout tower. Could you show me this trail you guys took on google maps or something? There's access to the wildlife refuge (grassy floodplains) off E Rogers road. Nothing crazy, especially when the grass is dry, but it's something.

That 99 is a really good deal. I'd have to see it in person, make sure its not going to fall apart with rust.

The 2000 is priced about $3k too high. Sure it has a lift and bigger tires, but its all rusted to sh*t in the rockers, the bumpers are beat to hell, and who knows how hard it was driven. It may have low miles, but I guarantee those were rough miles.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm in an extreme state of cabin fever at this point!

Any Indy people want to set up some concrete plans for this spring to go wheel somewhere? Either that secluded trail near lake Monroe, or maybe Redbird SRA or something?

I'm debating buying another set of Toyota rims off CL to mount some meatier rubber on. Stock split spokes have some nice Grabber HTS highway tires on them, fabulous for long road trips but I'd imagine pretty hopeless in anything slick.

I like the Lake Monroe idea, could be cool to combine the wheeling with camping, if any of you are into that. That would have to wait until spring when nights are a bit warmer (although I've done my share of winter camping and enjoy it). There's also a good spot nearby to do some shooting, again if other people are into that whole scene. Any part of the forest there that isn't within the boundary of the Charles C Deem wilderness is fair game for target practice, as long as it is done away from the hiking trails and done safely (shooting into a hill, not shooting into trees, etc).

One of the upcoming weekends (3/14-15) could be a good time to go to Redbird, I bet it'll be real slick with all the melting snow, for better or for worse.

Anyone else care to make any input?

I spy my old truck....

I know I don't have a 4Runner any more but I still love to work on them and share any help in the Indy area. Getting people infected with the wheeling bug is a beautiful thing.

Redbird would be real iffy after the snow melt. It gets really sloppy really fast in addition to being tight. Not a good combo to avoid body damage. The badlands is always safe if you know your way around.
