MillerPKA Build Thread #2

I'm sticking with my Imola vote.
Oh and also, glad to see someone else rocking the no spoiler hatch. Hah. Mine didn't have one from the original owner.. I always thought it was strange but now I actually prefer it. Probably just from seeing the back of my car enough now.
Looks like you had some off-roading fun! Nice. Keep up all the great work.

Had a fun day up in Mount Laguna. In the absence of progress, I offer pretty pictures.

4Runners look best a little dirty haha. Is that a flag magnet or sticker on the fender? I like it. I've got a magnet on my rear bumper covering up a ding from a hit and run...

That's a sticker, thanks to BrianSD_42 for hooking it up!

Yeah I took it off to paint one day and I think I just enjoyed the simpler look. Maybe I'll change my mind one day but for now I'm loving it.

Let me know when you wanna go play in Anza for a day

Keep me posted I need to get out there for a shoot anyways.

Some of the best photos yet! How goes the leather interior progress?

Thanks I was really happy with these!

Leather is on pause for right now. Broke the LF sway bar end link and looks like my left ITR blew yesterday, also right LBJ has grease all around it so I'm guessing that's close to gone too. Not thrilled but I've beat this truck up the last two weeks in a row so no one to blame but myself.

These trucks are getting old, but definitely worth the maintenance costs/effort. When do you plan to get cracking on the suspension?

By the way, how's your steering rack guide? up and down play at all? Have you done polyurethane rack bushings?

Haven't done the bushings but as soon as these other issues came up they got tacked onto the list. I'm reading up on these old threads now..I'm pretty rusty with this stuff apparently. Almost tempted to take it to a shop because of my lack of proper tools. I'm going to think about it over the next day or so but I need this fixed soon.

Very nice pics. I saw a set of those rims on DC's CL for $175 last week but was too late to snag them.

Ask Connor (4runningdaily) to borrow tools. He should have most of them at hand for all the work he has done to his rig at home.

Just got a picture of these bad boys from the welder. I'm going to get started this evening.

soooooooo, it looks like you had the "welder" cut the mounts and raise them to the height of your body lift??,,,,,, i was opting to drill new holes in the ARB bumper itself to raise it up to compensate for the BL..... OPINIONS?

Swatches came in yesterday. I am in no rush deciding but wanted to throw these up so I can get your thoughts.

what are the plans for the leather?.. maybe i missed this but it sounds like you're going to reupholster the interior entirely??????? what kind of cost quotes did you get regarding this?

btw my vote is to use both textures... maybe smooth on the seats and rougher texture on the door panels???

That is absolutely insane. I would have picked them up just off of general principal. Thanks for the heads up, fortunately it was a false alarm with the front suspension. Rear shock snapped which totally threw me off and misdiagnosed completely haha.

Why is welder in quotes - do you not believe he exists?!

Yeah the cut in that picture was different then the cut I made on the last bumper. The first time I cut right past the bolt holes, but ended up having to redrill the bottom bolt hole.

I am really glad I did it this way this time, keeps all holes in tact and moves the whole assembly. Especially since the brackets use square nut inserts instead just threaded circles so it would be a little trickier to mock those back up on new drill holes.

For the interior, I am just sitting back and analyzing my options right now. Yeah the end goal is for the headliner, trim, dash, doors and carpets to be black, and the seats, door inserts and a few other spots to be either red or saddle brown. Haven't gotten much in the way of quotes, but I am looking into Wet Okole and seeing if I want to go that route. They will sell me additional material so I can still do the door panel matching. I still really want to do the leather, but it's hard to overlook Wet Okole when taking a look at all options. Because I have to order by the half hide I most likely won't be doing both though if I do choose leather.

Overlooking Torrey Pines Golf Course, and in the stables of the Del Mar Racetrack.

While I'm at it I thought I'd introduce my next mod before I get started on it. This idea came from a lot of time on the road, and getting back to the truck exhausted and just wanting to ride out instead of fishing for water from the cooler, etc.

For simplicity sake we'll just call it the Bladder Mod. I am buying 2 Camelbak bladders with hosing and mouthpieces, as well as those soft coolers you can get at Wal Mart with the reflective finish inside. I'm taking those to the alterations place to cut, sew and add a zipper around each bladder so they have their own casing. Then those will be placed in the driver and passenger seat back pockets. The hosing will be run inside of the fabric, cutting in somewhere in the pocket area, and will come out on the front on the outsides of the seat. This way we can have extra water at the ready, and for road trips the passenger can fill it up with whatever they want. Pictures should help out a lot to illustrate later. Should be tackling this sometime in June in addition to the off road lights I finally found for the Gobi.

Haha. I noticed your last 4runner had the bigger flares on it, how much did they stick out from the ARB?

The way they curved in on the front it pretty much went flush with the ARB I really liked it. I have a set for this build I just haven't gotten around to putting them on yet.

Had one hell of a climb up near Palomar Mountain and man did it pay off. I couldn't decide which photos to share here so you get them all
