So I skipped the 1st pages of this and plan to go read them but good to see you get another 4runner. Your 1st truck let me know I had to go with the wheels I did. Hope you enjoy the west coast life. Its not the Carolina's but the good Lord can only make one place this nice!!

Glad I could help! I'm from here originally but the south will always have a special place in my heart.

Looking at your truck, I am having some crazy deja vu right now...and I like it!

Haha we all are! Eventually though the deja vu will end and the rest will be new craziness! Major plans for this build - getting it to where it was is just the beginning.

Here are some better shots, need to crank up the coilovers a little but wow what a ride. Absolutely amazing and damn does it feel good to be riding high again.

Got out of the city and went mountain biking up in Cleveland National Forest. I'm not too experienced with trails but they're the best ones I've ever seen. Couldn't resist getting this thing off the pavement either

Thank you sir! This truck had 4.30s stock because of the e-locker, and honestly it feels awesome. I had 4.10s on the last one and the only way I got away with that was because I lived in mostly flat land. Sooner or later I'll be going to 4.88s, but after yesterday's trip to the mountains I feel great running what I have in the meantime.

Took a trip to Anza Borrego last night for a little solo camping trip. Steering shaft locked up about 30 miles in and thank god I was able to get it back together because that was a pretty scary feeling. As soon as I got done popping the spacer back in place I heard something move, and I hadn't heard a thing all freaking day, and out of nowhere my stomach dropped and all of my hair stood up. Instead of checking my work to see if it was all patched up I hopped in my car and prerunnered the hell out of the desert. Safe to say this suspension is now broken in. Hope everyone had a happy halloween!

Those last couple of pics are in Ocotillo to air up, right? You passed through south Borrego on trails to get there or hit the highway? What area were those canyons? I really gotta get out there now that the weather is cooling down.

Awesome! No worries it was the bonding experience I needed with this truck. It's officially mine now. Actually, after the lift my steering wheel was off slightly to the left, now it's perfectly straight. I'm going to get under it tomorrow and see if there's any damage, but if not this whole ordeal actually made things better.

I got there in the afternoon and it was low 70s felt great. By the time I left it was still pretty warm just windy.

Yeah pretty much. At the corner of 78 and Split Mountain Road. Good thing to know that air hose is free 24/7 and reaches to the road.

I was going to stay out the whole night if I didn't bug myself out after the steering mishap. I had no idea the area was that popular, I must have passed 50 rigs, rvs with trailers, etc. filtering in at night. Really an awesome sight.

I'm pro guns so don't think I'm picking on you LoL but what could possibly "come out" at a person in the desert? There is nothing at all in Anza Borrego besides maybe a Rattlesnake that poses any danger to a person.

You could live out there for the rest of your life and not face danger. Food, water and shelter would be an issue sure but dangerous animals ... :gossip: Nope.


The pics look pretty sweet. I've never done much night driving out there. I think it would be really easy to get lost at night.

Actually, there are er.. "Immigrents" that do pass through Borrego, and moreso in the winter when it's cool. I've seen them, but frankly they are going to 99% of the time be more harmless than the trash yotes out there.

Heh... I've been going out to Borrego, north , south, svra, salton sea etc for... uh well for 50 years I guess, but of my own volition for the last 35. I took a long break and am just recently going back out again. It is insanely crowded and so built up compared to 20-25 years ago when I stopped going out every other weekend.

There are tons of weekend guided tours and 4s club gatherings now. On my last trip out there was also a bush plane meeting at the svra airport so there were tons of plans in the sky and on the ground as well. Was crazy.

I'm heading down south to see some areas I haven't seen in 25 years tomorrow and see how it's all changed down there. Dos Cabesas area, Fossil canyon, Painted Gorge etc.

I feel mostly melancholy about it actually... Still There are places I haven't explored yet and It's just as fun and refreshing to get away from the city as it always was (though I don't have any dirt bikes any more)

I don't think I was in danger but just being alone in the dark out there and having the feeling come up on me was really eerie. It would be nice to pack a little heat next time. Better safe than sorry but I agree on being safe out there.

It was tricky getting out to say the least. Only one missed turn but that one turn had me freaked out for a minute. That night shot was the first recognizable feature I had on the way out that let me know I was on the right track, which is why I stopped finally haha.

That's awesome man! Yeah now that I know how accessible it is I am definitely going back. Next time I think I'll bring someone along. I thought I'd enjoy solitude, and I did until my steering mishap haha.

I can imagine how much it's grown. Honestly it was dead in the afternoon when I got in, a few passersby but nothing heavy. When I finally got back to the 78 later that night I saw them filing in. So freaking cool. I'd be down to ride out there with you another time!
