MillerPKA Build Thread #2

It's about electrical. I think somewhere I saw that you were pretty good with that stuff but I don't remember where haha.

Haha I'm decent with it. I'll be at the house today and working on my buddy's WRX, actually electrical stuff on his haha, so feel free to cruise by if you'd like.

Spectre Performance is now an official sponsor of the build as well. Their product designer is now working on a custom intake using a 4" inline air filter that will connect directly to the air outlet. If all goes well I will likely try and gauge some interest from the community to see if this would be popular enough to offer as a kit for them.

No pictures or anything right now but will definitely keep this updated. Snorkel install is obviously on hold until the intake is completed.

One note though, this intake system will not be legal in California. While it is a bolt-on assembly, I will have to revert to my K&N to pass inspection. All of their designs have to be put in front of the emissions board for review. Maybe in time if this custom intake becomes an actual product or kit they can submit it. At worst case, I risk the possibility of a ticket if I am pulled over and somehow inspected. I will check with them about the 49 state compliance though.

Miller! Longtime fan of your builds. Lookin' forward to seeing where this one goes! Just one question, did you go to Southern? And if so, will you be in Georgia anytime soon?

Considering were you live the probability
probability of going through a DUI check point and being inspected is actually quite high.

Congrats on another sponsorship! I'm not sure how you do it, but you're great at finding them.

These two posts make me very grateful that I don't live in a state like that. I think there should be some sort of a state inspection(we don't have any here at all). Just one that checks for functioning lights, brakes, horn, and tires maybe. Just general safety stuff, but this stuff you guys are talking about is kinda crazy.

Just to clarify I meant "College Beach area" more than I meant California.

I've hit a DUI checkpoint twice now in that area.

I still couldn't imagine being stopped at a DUI checkpoint and having them inspect my vehicle for things like a cold air intake. We have DUI checkpoints here too usually around big holidays like memorial day, 4th of July, etc, but I've never actually been stopped at one though. Seems like they do them less and less now. I couldn't imagine a cop opening my hood and looking at what's under it for "violations" though. Just seems strange to me.

Sorry to distract from the thread Weston.:offtopic:

Thanks man! And yeah I did - GO EAGLES! I haven't been back to the south since I moved back in 2012. I'll probably fly out at some point this year but nothing planned yet.

I would never drink and drive, but all the same I avoid the checkpoint spots at those times. 3 years of living here without any hiccups. Even if I went through one I don't see them hanging me up long enough to even want to pop my hood. I'm willing to take the risk though. Hopefully this guinea pigging will result in a CA certified setup, then no one will have to worry.

Hey budd...DAYUUUUMM. I think you need to get some ball joints in there before you start worrying about panels! Did that happen recently?

Yeah man.... happened on December 31st. As for balljoints... I had replaced mine about 2 years ago... The balljoint didn't fail, the bolts that hold it in backed off. I never used locktite on them last time I took them off to change my CV axle.... totally forgot to do that when I re-assembled it. (still kickin my own a$$ for that one..)

Can't wait to see it installed! I'm hoping to get a roof rack for my black 4Runner too sometime in the future.

Took a little longer than expected but got it all wrapped up last night.

NOW this thing is starting to look familiar..

I'm just using the Tacoma snorkel like last time. Honestly I heard about them making a 3rd gen one here and have been waiting for updates. If there are none though I'll see if I can reach out to someone and get some info.

It's been a while since I've taken some nicer shots and this morning was so nice I couldn't resist.

ARB brackets are being adjusted now and should be installing in the next week or two. Waiting to hear back from K&N's product designer about the intake so I can get going on the snorkel install. Purchasing the parts for the limb risers this week too so I can do both at once. Instead of doing the ubolt bumper mount from last time, I'm going to drill through the bumper hoop and install eye bolts or something similar. I will do a write up in case anyone is interested.

Other than that I'm just waiting to find a replacement door so I can finally get the Bushwackers on. Then we'll be back to where the last build ended. Already talking to Katskin about interior options. I got obsessed with the idea of the Imola/Coral Red from BMW and that ended up with me talking to some German company about buying full hides. Took a step back and want to see what some other people have first. Katzkin also has a sponorship program, but they only accept 2010 and newer models. Spoke to the manager and they still want me to submit an application and they will consider it.

If I keep moving ahead of schedule with this stuff the 2UZ swap may be closer than I thought.
