Mini tie-down installation Question

I was attempting to install the mini tie-downs on my roof rack this evening. Using the supplied instructions, I found the access slot on the rear covers of the roof rack. I inserted a screwdriver and gently pried upwards while pulling back on the covers but still could not get the covers off.

Anyone have a tip for removing these covers without damaging anything?

I was the same the first time. Worried I'd break something. There are a couple points on the cover that need to clear (little clips things) one is towards the front of the vehicle and the other is about an inch from the back. Pry one off then the other and make sure you cover the tip of the screwdriver with electrical tape to keep the screwdriver from scratching the paint on the roof. First time I was afraid I'd break something. Second time I wasn't too concerned as I was removing the rack for the baja. Hope that helps.

^^Guys I think he's talking about removing the one on his TE rack, which is way different from the SR5/LE rails.

OP, what I usually do is slide something under the rear edge of the cover (edge facing back of vehicle) and pry it up enough to get a finger under there; then just slowly lift it straight upwards with two fingers. You have to make sure you go straight up because under there is only one metal retainer clip (facing perpendicularly upwards) holding it on, so you don't want to break off the post it's clipped on to. It's real easy even though the first time always feels like you're going to break it :)

2013Trail here's a picture of what I am talking about. I happened to have the end caps off anyway, so I figured this might help you out with your install.
