replacing the poorly functioning oem toyota "stereo/tape" unit in my '87. this is a double din unit, with the 10-pin/6-pin connector.
only 4 speakers, stock, and not upgrading those.
found a toyota unit, in-dash single cd, tape, etc. with the 10-pin/6-pin connector, double din size. has the additional 12-pin connector to add either amp or other stuff, but i'm not using it.
removed the old unit, installed the replacement unit, and it worked (briefly). all 4 speakers worked, and the tape deck played. didn't try a cd. the receiver was much better than the original in terms of reception.
turned the key from "acc" to off. later, turned key back to "acc" and nothing. no digital display, no nothing from the unit.
what did i do to it? i also reinstalled the old unit, which works, so i apparently didn't pop any external fuses.
