Is there a place I need to run bigger gauge wire than what comes stock on my truck?

Yes, if you intend to jump your main battery with your aux battery. The cable that runs from your alternator to your fuse box might be 6 gauge or 8 gauge, shorter runs can take more amps, but the cable that runs from your battery to your starter is much larger. I'd want to run a cable that is the same size (or larger if increasing the distance) as the one that powers the largest amp drawing device.

From all my research, the largest cable is 4awg which runs from battery to starter, everything else is 6 and smaller. Unless you are starting off your aux battery, which I am not, or running your aux battery to the rear, I really don't feel there is a need for anything larger than what I have in my system. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Nice setup! I would like to do something like this. I don't see a need for super thick wires, your primary purpose is low amperage (compared to starting or winching) and as long as you carry jumper cables you will be able to get yourself started in a pinch.

How did you mount the battery tray?
