Noob question. My parents have a 3rd Gen and my aging mother is having trouble seeing at night and it looks like the Morimotos from TRS are a good choice to help illumination. Anyone have a "how to" thread for installation? Also, I believe 3rd Gens (it's a 2002) use the 9004 bulbs, so I need the 9004 relay, correct?

Thanks for the help.

Nope, its the H4 relay. Which projector are you trying to get?

This is what I was looking at:

Bi-xenon FX-R Stage III Kit
3Five Ballasts
Philips bulbs
No halos
LHD 2.5" Lens
Glue
Bullet Shroud
H4/9003 Relay

Thoughts?

EDIT You responded when I was writing my post, but the info below should help regardless. That looks like a great set up to me.

Here's a retro with FX-R's. These require quite a bit of modifications to get them right. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...it-97-4runner-project-toyota-4runner-org.html

Also check out Rickashay's page. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/102734-rickashays-projector-retrofit-thread.html

Retro headlight aiming. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/130317-how-properly-aim-projector-headlights.html

The4kBeast's. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...nner-sr5-highlander-edition-4x4-build-16.html

Bandit Runner's retro http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/101725-bandit-runners-projector-headlights.html

I have some info in my build as well. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/98528-scrunners-build-thread-12.html

There are more, but these pretty much cover it all.

Unsure if you know...but they are having a group buy over on Tacomaworld.com. The group buy allows you to save 25% off your purchase from TRS. Here's a link to it below. They already have the minimum number of buyers...the problem is, Burt is making the purchase on Monday morning (1/28/13). Ambiguous is the point of contact...

THE RETROFIT SOURCE FX-R / Mini GROUP BUY (only need 10) ROUND 2 - Page 3 - Tacoma World Forums

So if you want in on it, you only have a couple of days. Make sure you read Brian's build. He did a great job...I only hope mine turns out that good. I don't want to speak for Brian...but I'm sure he will be happy to answer any questions. Good luck...

That the same kit I just ordered...except I bought the orbit shroud. From what I read...this should be ticket!

Get over on Tacomaworld and place your order...can't remember exactly what I saved, but it was somewhere around $100...

Painting the headlights is an option.

Sounds solid. Be sure to post up when you're done!

I linked the TacomaWorld GB from TRS over here. (same as Russtoy's) Be sure if you want to save over 100 to order by Sunday night!

The FX-R's require quite a bit more work than other options - if you're looking for the easiest retro fit, since you mentioned it was just for your mom, I would suggest the h-1 Mini's. Much easier for a retro.

I know Im going to get flamed for this but I just added HIDs without projectors in our 3rd gen. I just aimed the beam down a bit so they aren't blinding for oncoming drivers.

You're still blinding people, just not as much. There will always be glare when using HID bulbs in reflectors.

Agreed, I should have wrote my glare comment a little better. Since Im looking to do the LS460 projector retrofit on my 5th gen, Ill practice first by doing it on the 3rd gen.

Yea, i feels. Lol i have hid's in one of the camrys we have and its not too bad (definitely not blinding) but it does have glare. I plan on switching it out next time im home. Good stuff on the ls460 though.
