Most Miles on 1 Tank of gas?

Yea so I'm about 2 weeks old now with my 4runner and I'm really wondering if an elf is stealing all of my gas. I'm thinking I got less than 200 miles on a full tank last week, and now after 1/2 a tank gone, I've only traveled 86 miles???

3.4L V6 with a brand spanking new K&N air filter.

Ideas, comments, or adds?

cold air slowing you down some? Ive noticed my MPG drop a bit recently.

Yah I've noticed that either my meter is terribly off, or somethings affecting my gas. It has been cold lately though.

For $5 worth of gas, which is like 2 gallons, I get like 16 miles.

I don't know, maybe its cause the meter is off or something. When I changed the battery, the meter went wrong for some raeson. When I unplugged the battery, the gas was at half. Then when I plugged the new battery in, the gas was at the 1/4 point. I was like hum.. Then I drove around for a while. And it went back. But then I unplugged it again casue I had to put a spacer in, and it went back to the 1/4 point, and it never went back or at least I don't think so.

Aynone know whats wrong?

ive gotten 200 while leadfooting.. but i usually get around 210-220.

are you a big speeder? do you floor it?

I get 240-250 miles per tank of gas. 97 2wd 3.4 atm.

lol, I floor it sometimes is that why my mileage sucks so much? I'm at 68k miles.

Hard acceleration jack rabbit starts definetly hurt MPGs on the 3.4 and it also hurts trying to maintain 80mph up in the mountains. I genrally get pretty much the same as Lee which is anywhere from 14-16mpg.

I got 400 miles on a tank once, it took 17.5 gallons which is pretty close to empty. I usually get 280 to 320 on each tank. I will admit to getting 15 MPG once in awhile, but I average 19.4 MPG over 77,000 miles with a 2WD and a 3.73 rear end.

I hardly ever use the ECT button. I try not to have a lead foot, I do tend to go 77 - 80 on the highway, of course that is normal unless you want to get run over.

I am thinking your mileage is more than a lead foot. It may be in your pollution devices, O2 sensor, PVC valve, maybe a tune up or what ever. It sounds like you just bought the car, I would suggest taking it to a someone good with tools and get it checked out.

Manual vs auto tranny also makes a big diff. With my '97 5 Speed I never saw under 250 a tank with over 260 as the norm and I drove it the same as I do my '99. My '97 also did have the stock size tires.

Diriving 70% highway and 30% street, and going WOT maybe a few times a week, driving on average of 75 mph on freeway. I get on average 16.2 mpg, and get around 245-260 to a tank.

With 100% highway driving at speeds between 65-85 mph, I've gotten as close as 19.7 mpg and gotten almost 310 mile to a tank.

i usually average about 225-240 a tank. if i notice my mileage lower than that its usually because im near or passed the 3000 mark and have to get my oil changed and once i do that i get back to my 225-240 mile avg per tank

On a weekly basis I'm fillin up, I'm thinking... sheesh.... I'm thinking no more than 18 gallons, probably 17 ish...

lemme do some math...

Even if the mpg was 12 it would top 200 miles per tank. Considering this is my 2nd week with the thing, Ill keep you guys posted on the haps. Maybe this week will merit different results.

You must baby it cause you are in the very small minority that gets that with a 4wd Runner. The average is generally under under 270 a tank.

I got 365 outta my 2wd 4Runner. I think My avg speed was about 75-80. I was sweating it too though Especially since I was in the mountains of roanoke or so when it popped on.

I've put 27,000 miles on my 97 4R 4x4 since July 2005 and I have been averaging about 20mpg! The worst was 18 and the best was 22.6. I have checked EVERY single tank.......Looks like I'm getting way above average!!!!
