Mounting on the outside?

So looking for some insight/guidance/thoughts here...

I am planning on creating some temporary mounting brackets the go on the outside of the 4Runner in various places (sides and roof). They will be fixed in upto 2 possible locations across the roof rack and will need a third "attachment" point to prevent bouncing or sag. What are the thoughts on using something similar to suction cups or a rubber stop? see attached image with arrows (yes that is a JOEs Side Load Access Panel - no, I don't have one)

Anyone with a SLAP - how has the suction cup system worked out? Has it stayed attached or has it bounce free?

Anyone with a no-drill Prinsu rack - how was the rubber foot worked out?

Anyone with any constructive .02 - let's hear it...
