MT LT Rear Med or Heavy springs

I'm going to order the Metal Tech long travel rear kit soon. Probably go with the ICONs and the offset lower links (stage 4 LT kit is what I think they call it)

Trying to decide between the med or heavy springs. What say you.

I'm thinking medium for now. I plan to keep my OME setup in front for the time being. Will probably switch that to some ICON coil overs when I finally get a bumper (hurry up Demello).

If I ever do a rear swing out... I could get the heavy springs.

I would not opt for the HEAVY springs unless you really plan on keeping some weight down on the rear end. I just got the OME 3" lift with MED springs in the back it is definitely stiffer. Right now I don't have much in the back but about 20-25lbs in supplies/survival gear. Also have a dog crate that holds my 80lb Dogo puppy there so that should help a bit.

Sorry, should have clarified. The long travel springs are a little different than all the others (since they are dual rate).

This is what their specs say. (I'm thinking med for sure now given the lift of the heavy)
Medium Duty Spring Specs:
Free Length - 19.25"
Bottom Coil Rate - 250lbs
Top Coil Rate - 105lbs
Lift Height - 2"

Heavy Duty Springs Specs:
Free Length - 19.25"
Bottom Coil Rate - 300lbs
Top Coil Rate - 104lbs
Lift Height - 3"

I've got the heavies on mine. I do have a rear bumper as well. Before I installed the bumper with these springs, it sat slightly higher than it does now.

Do you have any pics of the ride height compared to front....

Another question for you. Noticed you have double disconnect rear sway bar links listed in your sig. Do you actually disconnect those on trail? Seems like it would be clanking around back there like that....

No pictures currently with specs of the ride height. As for the double disconnects, I used them once but were more of a pain in the ass than anything. Couldn't get them back on so I just drove around without the sway bar for a while. Forced them back on and haven't taken them off yet. I think the holes just need to be milled out slightly more. As for the clanking of the sway bar, I had zip tied it up. It worked for a bit but then the zip ties kept breaking. You're off road, things are going to be making noise.

Thanks for that info. I would like to eventually figure something out for the swaybars. For now, I'm just running a rear with extended links. I'll play around with it more after I get the LT setup on.

Mediums if you don't have a rear bumper or one being made. I have heavies but my ass is heavy! I pulled the swaybars out of mine and have never missed them. It does lean but it isn't horrible. I kinda like the feedback tbh. I have another vehicle if I want to whip through the turns... It is so much better than the disconnects. cbielat, try wiring it up instead of zip ties. It won't break on you and works well enough.

That's exactly what I was planning for the next time out. Thanks man! Hope you had a nice Christmas.

One more question you may be able to answer.

I was researching this more and startted thinking about the need for a 3" bump stop with the ICONs. Seems wasteful since I'm only on 33s, but it needs to be there to stop the shocks from bottoming out with the LT setup.

The LT ICONs are:
Fully Extended:28.5
Fully Compressed:17
Travel:11.5

I found some FJ guys running some cheap proComp (926514)shocks that are:
Fully Extended:26.79
Fully Compressed:15.56
Travel:11.23

I'm wondering if you know what the Radflo specs are.

Just doing the procomps + MT springs + extended brake lines might be a great place for me to start.

The Radflo's are in the 28.xx range as well. I can't remember the compressed length. You'll want the bump stops. Just do it right the first time and you won't regret it. Remember, you get what you pay for. From reading reviews and looking at pictures, I wouldn't touch a Procomp product but that's just me.

When I was looking at mine MT told me they were the same travel and really just a brand preference. They had Radflo on theirs because Radflo was a sponsor at the time. I also wouldn't do procomp. Go icon or Radflo and do it right once instead of doing it twice.

I know the procomps are junk quality, but I'm just talking about an experiment really. They would cost me $100 total. It would take me about 1hr to swap shocks, no big deal if they failed quickly or felt horrible.

The 3" bump stop extensions will really limit up travel....If I was running 34s that would be fine, but it seems crazy with 33s. I would like to find a good quality shock with the same extended and compressed lengths...as the procomp. There is an OME LTR shock in a similar length but it is prettty expensive... I would want to make sure that is what I want before investing in it. I'll eventually do 34s, so the ICONs would be fine then.

I'm just weighing out my options. I sort of like to tinker....
