Appreciate the quick response. I realized this is a 3rd Gen thread after I posted it. I recently got a 5th Gen. So it might vary in responses. Sorry about the confusion. I had a full magna flow exhaust on my 4th Gen and it was great just a pretty loud drone at 40 mph and with my xp I'm trying to do all practical mods on the new whip.

I've got an 18" Magnaflow. I've had it for over a year now and haven't had a single problem. Its got a nice growl to it when idling. Doesn't drone out on the interstate either. I love it when I need to punch it on the interstate...sounds great. Although you have a 5th gen, I'd think it would be the same since they are both V6s.
18" is the muffler and tip correct?
That was a longer 24" case Magnaflow muffler, with a two-piece tube inside, poorly joined together in the middle. It was that thread that alerted me to the situation with their longer case mufflers.
I've got a shorter 18" case Magnaflow muffler (11255), that has a one-piece tube running through it.
The construction of the 18" single tube muffler looks much more durable than the longer two-piece tube design.
Hopefully the better construction used in the shorter Magnaflow, will hold up over time.

02SE is correct on the Magnaflow situation.
The smaller muffler with the one piece tubes are probably just fine, however the 24" is absolute manure. Mine lasted less than 1000 miles.
I instead went with a 24" Borla muffler which sounds great, is very quiet at idle but does have a nice tone when you give you some gas.
Once the stock muffler is toast I would never replace it with another stock one, cost far more and not nearly as good of a muffler.
The engine runs better when it can breathe.

Thanks for all the responses. My intention isn't to gain tons of HP, i'm not building a drag car. It's more about efficiency, my thought process was less back pressure = more fuel efficient ride. Whatever HP (little HP) i gain is just a perk.

I'm with you on this. I've gotten to a stage in my life that loud exhausts annoy the heck out of me. Some vehicles sound good and I'll give you that but a 3.4l with aftermarket exhaust is nothing I would parade around. My neighbor has a T100 that had the cat stolen a couple of years ago. He had a new cat and entire aftermarket exhaust put in and I can tell you it sounds like garbage. He's 50+ years old and he must be hard of hearing.
I don't like it so much I've dreamt about going out there in the middle of the night and switching it out for stock.
There is a lot to be said for the stock setup and call me old but when my muffler goes I'll be looking for a quiet replacement.

That is why I went with a 24" muffler, the Magnaflow was nice however clearly has a design flaw that apparently they are not going to fix.
The 24" Borla sounds very nice, is very quiet at idle, about the same as stock but with just a different "tone".
It does get a bit louder than stock when you give some gas but its not obnoxious at all and doesn't drone at highway speeds.
The truck runs better with the freer flowing exhaust.
