Muffler Opinion Thread

So my 97 sr5 needs a new exhaust to pass PA state inspection, my question is...whats the best sounding muffler in your opinion on the 3.4L V6. I DO want a rumble...not just looking for stock sound
Im looking for people with personal experience using these mufflers

Let me know asap i have like a day until they do it

I'd say the 40 series is comparable with the 18". The 44 will be a lot louder...some like it, but I'd think it'd get old.

Your muffler sounds great, I really want to get a Magnaflow but have been scared to do so after reading all the bad experience other people on the forum have had. Would you mind giving some more info about your muffler..
What model number is it?
When/Where did you purchase it? (it seems like the quality went down at one point)
How many miles have you put on it so far?

Is it loud or just slightly more than stock?
Id like a little bit more grunt when I step on it but don't want to wake up the neighbors when I go to work at 6am. The 18" magnablow was the volume I was looking for but so many people have had terrible experiences with them

Sorry. I don't have one yet myself. But liny4runner has one and his videos along with some others in YouTube have me convinced.

FWIW, that was a longer 24" case Magnaflow muffler, with a two-piece tube inside, poorly joined together in the middle. It was that thread that alerted me to the situation with their longer case mufflers.

I personally inspected a 24" like COB had and noted the two-piece tube and what appeared to be poor joining of the two pieces. I also looked at a 22" case Magnaflow muffler, which also had a poorly constructed two-piece tube running through it.

As a result, I've got a shorter 18" case Magnaflow muffler (11255), that has a one-piece tube running through it.

The construction of the 18" single tube muffler looks much more durable than the longer two-piece tube designs.

Hopefully the better construction used in the shorter Magnaflow, will hold up over time.

Thanks, I was under the impression that only the 14" was one piece, good to know that the 18" also has solid innards!

Ya, I have the same 18" as mentioned about. It's been a year now and no problems. Still sounds great, no rattles, and hasn't rusted out.
 
02SE should be correct, the 18" is probably fine.

Myself I wanted fairly QUIET close to stock sound so I didn't want anything shorter than 24".

I ended up with the 24" Borla 40665 Tubo XL which I got from Amazon and I paid $168 at the time.
They still have them on sale right now on Amazon for $102.

While at idle it is nice and quiet, bit louder than stock nice Borla tone.
When you give it gas however it roars right on up especially if you have the Deckplate mod and ISR mod or an Airaid tube which is what I have.

It is not obnoxious on the highway at 60-75mph just a nice steady rumble not really a bad drone sound at all.
