Multi Display LED swap didn't work?

A few of my HVAC control lights weren't working, so I figured I'd swap all of them with LEDs. I used the Neo3 and Neo4 bulbs from Super bright LEDs.

Everything went well, but for some reason the Neo4 lights in the multi display would not work. Am I missing something here? I even tried removing the LEDs from their base, and touching the wires to the contacts on the circuit board. Still nothing.

All the other HVAC LEDs work without issue.

Any suggestions?

(I searched, but couldn't find anything specific to this problem.)

The lower voltage neo4 that used to work without modification are discontinued and not available anymore! You will need to run a 12volt source to the current neo4's!
Factory voltage to those are 7volts, neo4hp's require 12volts

Thanks. That makes sense.

I'll start searching for a 7volt LED. In the mean time, does anyone know of a plug and play LED for the multi display?
 
I cut the stock plastic bulb holders shorter and mounted 2 flat top 3mm LEDs in each holder.
OR
You could do a single 3mm LED and a 150 ohm resistor.

I like the way mine looks with the 2 LEDs in each bulb holder.

What exactly do you mean by 'dash'?

Multi display (2 bulb connectors) is about 6-7volts so you either need to do a 150 ohm and a 3mm led OR 2 flat top LEDs without a resistor.
All other 3mm LEDs need a 560 ohm resistor (exceptions are replacing existing LEDs with LEDs, no resistor is needed...ex: hvac indicator LEDs or driver window switch)

74 LED Bulbs

You could use the LEDs linked in you vled links to do some of the hvac backlighting and other push button switches like center diff but some of the applications will be brighter if you solder yourself and aim the bulbs vs. the vled plug and play.

I had read that newly purchased neo bulbs would not work prior to purchasing some. I'm notsure exactly of the model I ordered but they worked fine without a 12v mod. I want to say I order from Super Bright LEDs. I did have some issue getting them to fit and make solid contact but they were soft plastic and easy to mangle to my will. putting them in backwards was also a problem as they were difficult to remove and any indicating mark was lost by then.

Has anyone else here swapped their HVAC screen bulbs with no mod?
 
i tried a few different brands of led neo4 & most were not bright enough or had hot spots but all worked without a 12v mod needed, just loosen the plastic tabs a bit, push in with screw driver and turn. as you can see from my pic, they work. i tried the red & amber first but needed to see better so i went with the white. i think what may be happening is some dont massage the tabs first, just stuff in & turn which can jam one down. sometimes it looks seated but only one tab is locked so it doesnt have a proper connection.

Thus is what I am thinking is going on. Every bulb I have swapped has worked flawlessly without a 12v. Not to mention that it strikes me as odd that I would need more power for an led. They are bright , dim with the dimmer switch, the ittle hot spotting isn't really noticeable compared to how much I hated the amber and burnt out bulbs.

Yes, different voltage, but they still work without having to wire in a 12v line. If I were to hook up 12v it would make it too bright, IMO. The only reason I would have to make it brighter at this point would be if I wanted to do reverse polarization screen.

I only mentioned it because I keep seeing posts that say the bulbs don't work without doing the 12v mod.

If you think a loose connection is causing the LEDs not to light up, just connect 2 test wires to the neo and see if it lights up when touch the wires to the positive and negative on the back of the HVAC panel.
Depending on the resistor size, led current draw, led forward voltage...they might work on 6-7V.
 
Ok, now I'm really confused... I've read that the 12v LEDs won't work without adding a resistor, and others are saying they work without any mods to the LED. I tried removing the Neo4hp cool white from its base and held the wire ends to the connection points on the circuit board, and got nothing. Just to make sure I didn't screw up the polarity, I reversed the wires to the opposite points and still nothing. I tried it with 2 separate bulbs, same result. Any suggestions? Sorry, not trying to beat a dead horse here, but small electronics are not my strong suit.

with the hp bulbs from superbrightleds, i do the 12v mod.
