My 2007 v6 4runner engine blew

So you think everyone with a V8 belongs to this forum? I think only a small percentage of people with 4Runners post on this forum.

How about ih8mud? Where cruisers are used and abused daily.

And your right, the majority of people who post tell a cool story about their problem and leave (true for every consumer item). People never tell cool stories about the good stuff so what your saying holds no merit

I am not familiar with ih8mud. What I am saying holds merit if you don't know the percentage of owners who post, or are willing to post on this forum. There is no way you know that no V8's have failed since 1997.

If you want to make your decision based on the small amount of owners who post, that's your prerogative.

Your not getting my point. People complain when things they buy break, not when they work. More people come online to complain than not to.

The V8 is a mechanically superior engine. Its simple.

You're not getting my point. You are basing your decision on an unknown sample. It's that simple. I don't care if it's a V8, I4, V6 or a horse drawn carriage.

It's really not worth arguing over. Merry Christmas.
 
When I was looking to buy 4runner few month back I"ve seen 2005 V8 that needed new engine on local craigslist. The guy wanted 10K for it, he didn't mention any details what was wrong and I didn't care to ask but it had under 90K on it.

It doesn't really matter until it's your motor regardless of being a 6 or 8, when it goes it sucks. Debating one or the other is like debating colors, who cares?

I'm an old 'Mud Lifer and tales of long lasting motors are plentiful. I hope the more current have the same history, I'm counting on my '05 lasting as long as my olf FJ62 which I sold with 258,000 miles on it and last report it's still running like a champ.
 
A friend who is a Toyota master tech said when the 4.0 came out they got sent to school for them. He said the 4.0 is one of the strongest engines he has seen. Built like the Chevy 4 bolt main hp blocks. Said the bottom end is virtually indestructible. That's why Toyota still sells superchargers for the 4.0. Any master techs out there verify? That being said, I prefer the v8! I have had two v8's and one v6. I have both now and really like both. The v8 is so smooth and nice sounding though! Sorry to hear about your experience.

my opinion on the v8 vs v6 is who cares....people buy them on what they need, what they can afford, or what the will be doing(onroad/offroad).

oh and this tread isn't for the fight between the two. your opinion for the v8 vs v6 take it to the v8 vs v6 forum and take it head on there.


and i haven't had anymore information to give about my 4runner

I had a 96' Tacoma 3.4 4x4 prior to my 05' 4runner and I personally put 240k miles on that old truck. I traded it with 284k miles....HARD miles I might add!
On a trip to Dallas one time, my a/c went out along w/ power steering. I pulled off the road thinking I broke a belt. After deciding it was more serious than that, I was towed (thank you AAA) 65 miles into Dallas to a large dealership. I left my truck there and got a call the next morning saying my CRANKSHAFT BROKE! I almost cried. I was in college at the time, since my dad covered the payments until I graduated, I called him up to help me out. After the repair along w/ tune up, trans, plugs, and such and a $4k bill later, I was back on the road. Bottom line was I am convinced there was a "bubble" in the metal, or some other kind of defect in the crankshaft that caused my failure. That just doesn't happen with Toyotas. I called Toyota....they almost laughed, and I can't say I blame them- I had 145k at the time. Sorry to ramble, hope your ride gets fixed soon!

yes they are, and im not sure yet they just did a quick inspection, i have to turn in some paper work and my oil change dates and mileage to make sure i did them every 5k miles like it says to in the owners manuel thing. but when i know more or when they start working on my car ill try to go in and take pictures of the engine and what happened.
 
I am not interested in the V6 vs V8 fights that people are willing to have on here. I have a V6 and I have no issues with it. End of story. However, I am interested in hearing from the original person who started the thread as to what the dealership found and the root cause of the problem. I am assuming they need to look into this further and will provide the owner with more information in the coming days. Please keep us posted. I would like to hear how this turns out and sorry to hear about what happened.

i still have no word on my 4runner due to christmas.
i am still waiting (impatiently) on the dearlership to inform me.
 
Any way you put it, it was a catastrophic failure that should not have happened. Out of the millions of 1gr trucks out there, there's bound to be a weak one somewhere and unfortunately you got it. At least it's a Toyota and they'll take care of the issue free.
