My '87 Daily driver

This truck goes to the paint shop next weekend! I really excited to get it looking new again. I decided to stick to the stock colors and will be replacing the decals too. I'm having the top done in gloss black too.
The pile of parts I've been collecting will go on after I get it home. If all goes well, I'll be doing an engine swap next year and have a really nice rig!
 
Me too, this is a first for me. I've never had a paint job done on anything before. I was supposed to take it in today, but woke up to 4" of snow. Not a problem for me, but my friend didn't want to drive me back home in it. The shop doing the work is a sponsor of the race team I crew for. I got a good deal for a complete paint with quality products I think.
 
I've been reading thread after thread about 1uz-fe swaps. I have a lead on a 50K mile LS400 being parted out. I can have the engine, harness, and ecu for $500. The R150 bellhousings can be found for around $400. This would be a long term swap, but would be cool!
 
Picked it up today.
1UZ-FE, has 71K miles. Now I have my work cut out for me!

Good thing my Taco isn't any higher, my cherry picker was maxed out!
 
I did some reading today and looked under the plug wire covers for the date on the wires. Looks to be a 1990 engine, which is the stronger rotating assembly. I'm amazed at how clean this engine is beyond the surface corrosion on the exterior aluminum, even those plug wires looked new. I'm most concerned with the wiring harness after reading through some threads on yotatech. It looks like a huge amount of work! I'm planning to use a flywheel, clutch, and fork from a 3.slow and the throw-out bearing from a 3.4. I got a line on a good R150F today too, wish I could find a mythical R151 around here though.
 
Only one pic from the paint shop, but she's getting some love today. I can't wait to see it all done in a couple weeks.

 
Well, it's taken a "back seat" to the daily work of my buddy's shop. I stopped by to check it out yesterday and just got a text pic of it rolled into the booth this morning. The decal kit arrived last week and should get put on in between the last coats of clear. He's shooting Sikkens paint, so it's quality stuff, I cant wait to get it back!!!





 
Sadly no. They where using a new paint and had issues with the clear. Being it's my friends shop, he is having it completely sanded down and the body reworked again. I was concerned with issues showing up later if it was just blocked and sprayed again. It's ready for paint a second time around now, just waiting in line. :(
