My 96' SR5

How's it going everybody! Long time troll, first time poster. Here is my 96' 4runner SR5. Had to show off my baby girl!! Just had removed my running boards and had all fender flares, front and rear bumper, grille and rear deflector sprayed with bed liner. I think it looks fantastic so I had to show you guys.

Other Mods include: Deckplate, Airraid MIT, Truflow air filter, Optima battery, Pioneer Head Unit, Soundstream 4 channel amp for the doors, JL Audio amp for the sub, JL Audio separates up front, Infinity coaxial in the rear, JL Audio 10W7 with a slot ported fur covered box (I'm a burning man junkie, had to fur out something TRD shifter, Clear lenses all the way around with led bulbs, 99 4runner headlights, KMC XD series Hoss wheels, 265x75x16 Revo's. Also the Roof rack with my Thule snowboard racks aren't on because I broke a clip taking them off. While my bumpers and flares were getting sprayed I removed the rack to give her a full wax job and buffed her up. My paint is pretty bad but oh well, she's pretty old.

List of things to do are: Tundra coils for the front w/Toytec spacers, LC 7 wraps for the rear, adjustable panhard bar, 1" dif drop, bilsteins all the way around, 285x70x16 Nitto Trail Grapplers for rubber.

Tell me what you guys think, good or bad!! Had to show some 4runner love for my baby!! 216k and running like a champ!

Forgot to add I've also got a 40 series flowmaster with 2.5" stainless exhaust from the cat back. Sounds puurty good Ya I love having a 5 spd, don't see too many of them. The sub amp under the seat is never ever hot, maybe slightly warm, it's JL so it's high quality and made to be stressed all the time. That sub and amp combo is ridiculously loud, it's pretty insane.

Any animals harmed in the making of the sub enclosure? Black & red theme is looking sharp, and I'm not a huge fan of red. Clean ride ya got there :thumb3:

Haha, no animals were harmed in the making of that enclosure. What I like about it (besides it being soft and furry) is when you peek in the tinted back windows you see nothing but black. Thanks for the responses everyone! Of all the photos of others rigs I've seen VERY few of my color..weird. I love my 4runner and I can't wait to get some lift on this thing, the long process of finding the parts begins!!

A little update. I installed my lift the other day at my buddy's shop. Took about 5 hours with a little help from him and the other shop guy. I went with TRD Tundra coils up front (YY, YB) with Tundra Bilstein 5100 adjustables set on 2nd perch. In back I went with LC coils (19.25" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps, 19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps) with Bilstein 5125's. Toytec diff drop and Toytec panhard bracket. I went to get it aligned and they said my inner tie rods are shot and it wouldn't align right until I fixed that so I'll be doing that soon. I'm very happy with the amount of lift I got and it rides freaking amazing!!! Rear is starting to settle with only my spare and heavy ass sub in the rear. At first I was thinking of going to the 3rd perch up front but I'm going to let it settle and go from there. I don't mind a little rake but at first it was crazy rake, pics are about a week after install. These Revo's look funny with the lift and I'm not a huge fan of them anyway. In the future I'll be getting some 285x75x16's to complete the lift. I'm leaning towards D rated Treadwright Guard Dogs but I can get a smoking deal on Nitto Trail Grapplers but they're E rated. Nitto's are $940 with lifetime rotation and balancing, Treadwright are around $640 to my door. Decisions decisions....

CV angles good?

I'm doing my inner tie rods this weekend so I can get it aligned. It rides surprisingly well for not being aligned, I'm sure it will be very nice after. Went with Moog ITR's as I've heard they are good quality comparably to OEM. My question is about my CV angles. Do they look good atm? I have the front struts on the 2nd perch and was thinking about going to the 3rd to level it out a bit. Any comments would be greatly appreciated before I get this done. Thanks for looking.

The cv angles are just fine but if I was you, don't go to the 3rd perch. Not yet. Maybe in the future!

Let the cvs and boots get used to the new angles.

Don't go up to the third perch. Your CV's are pretty much at the reliable limit right now. Any steeper, and they might not blow up tomorrow, but they will definitely give you problems sooner than later. Also, I see one has already spit a little grease. You're going to want to remove the factory clamps on the inner boots and replace them with some stainless wormdrive clamps. The factory clamps don't grab tight enough.

Also, when you push it up to the 3rd perch and compress the spring that much more, the ride goes to crap. Especially with zero extra weight up front. Those LC coils will still settle a little more out back too.


Oh, and the rig looks awesome! I love the red and black combo. It'll look killer with some aggresive 285 tires.

I like it! Those wheels are killer. Oh, and I'm diggin' the oldschool carpet for the box haha. How are you liking that 12w7? I'm looking at upgrading my Type R's for W7s but I've never heard them in person. Does it pick up all the notes really well?

So where would I buy these stainless worm drive clamps? I'll do them this weekend too, I didn't notice but yes one is leaking.

Great looking rig Dina! Looks like you've done quite a bit to it already. Also, regarding the 285 E rated Nittos, I think most would agree on here that the E rating is not as significant in a "taller sidewall" tire such as a 285. However, I would never put a smaller 265/75 E rated tire on it. It seems like the majority regret doing that. But the main consensus is that E rated tires in general are just too much for our 3rd gen t4rs.

BTW, I have no experience with E, D, or even C rated tires, so take my word with a grain of salt lol. I'm just relaying to you what I've read on here.

I can just get a great deal on nittos, and they last 50k+ with proper care. What size clamp for inner cv boots? I would search but I'm at work

@MattDyer94 - The sub is freaking amazing, hits every note with perfection. It's in a slot ported box made to JL's specs. It's actually a 10w7, the 12 or 13 would be nice, but way to loud for me. It's still very loud though, yet precise, read any review on one and it's nothing but good stuff.

My buddy who owns a custom 4 wheel shop swears by the Nitto's. They got 58k out of a pair of MT's and the other shop truck has 30k on the Trail Grapplers with over half tread left. I know it may ride a tad stiff but I can get such a good deal on them and most tires in that size are E rated.

Once I get that inner cv boot tightened up I really want to raise it up 1 notch because my rear is about 3 inches higher right now. I understand the rears will settle but I'd like about 1-1.5 in of rake, not 3. But I'm also worried about the cv's, I haven't seen many people here running on the 3rd notch, always 1st or 2nd. It rides super smooth right now so I don't know, I'm torn...

Haven't posted in awhile with my updated work I've done so here goes...

First I fixed my rear latch so it would open so while I had it apart I had the gray license plate insert sprayed with bed liner to match the rest of my truck.



Second I bumped the bilsteins up to the 3rd notch, much better look and rides just perfect for me. Some say it's too stiff but I honestly can barely tell the difference from the 2nd notch. I also sanded and painted my exhaust with super high temp flat black paint, you can barely see it in pics.









Oh yeah, and I bought a Thule bike rack for my Santa Cruz Heckler and put on a AVS bug deflector. After I get back from burning man I'll be getting Nitto Trail Grappler 285's, replacing the bearings, snap rings, etc. in the rear axle, new seals the whole shabang and new black led tail lights. Also going to replace LBJ's and CV's for fun since they have 220k on them:wow:

Hey Dinabox, your rig looks sweet! I haven't seen many Runners in Red. In fact, with all the 3rd Gens in Socal, I honestly don't remember seeing one that's your color. Of course while driving around tomorrow, I'll see 3 of them.

Thanks again for the IAC. I haven't had time to do the install yet, and I'm also waiting on a TB gasket from my local stealership before I swap it. That, and I have 7 other minor projects I'm doing at the same time.
