Hey Guys!
So I got my truck back in January and I was finally able to find some time off work and warm sunshine here in Michigan to tinker around with her. When I purchased the truck I had heard about the pink milkshake fiasco and immediately purchased the BM70268 tranny cooler to do a bypass.

While I waited for the weather to warm up I purchased the BAFX Bluetooth OBDII reader ($25) and the Torque app for android ($5) and I was able to monitor my trans temps while I waited for warmer weather. :thumb3:

This weekend I was able to put it in. It was pretty straightforward. The most PITA part of this was putting on the damn 3 skid plates. Also, getting the right position for the cooler with zip ties. As you can see below its probably not perfectly straight. However, I'm satisfied! No pink milkshake for me!:reddance:

Torque readings on the highway at about 65mph and an ambient temperature around 60 degrees. Yesterday the ambient temps dipped to about 30 degrees and at the same highway speed I was seeing about 97-110 degrees max.

Nice start! I've been looking into doing both of these actually. How is the speed of the bluetooth reader? Are the measurements real time and fairly quick?

So far the readings I have been getting are real time and fairly quick. If there is any delay it's about a half a second at most and that was with the vehicle speed and rpm.
 
I know what you mean about this Michigan weather. A lot of my mods are on hold until it get nicer out. We had a little snow yesterday. Hopefully soon.
 
I just ordered a bluetooth odb2 adapter last night also! Cant wait to get it and play with the app, always had stuff like this for my dsm's and just havnt bought it yet.

What where the trans temps before the install?

Yep! And hey look at that, you're the closest T4R member to me so far. I actually grew up in Berrien Springs and visit the Stevensville/St Joe area every now and then. Your truck is sweet!

I went to their main page but the authorized retailer stated Amazon, didn't see a cart on the page but also didn't look that hard.

I kept telling myself that I would measure right before I did the install and I didn't. :sorry: I think I got too excited about the weather warming up and just got right to it. But the last time I had really pulled out the app and measured while driving was about two months ago, so the temps outside where around the 15-25 degrees and I remember seeing around 110-120 degrees on a short drive. I think the cooler does aid in bring down temps a bit, especially when there is air flowing through.When I took the truck to the dealership to see if they would put in since the weather hadn't warmed up, for which they quoted me $300+, they told me that I wouldn't see much benefit from it versus the stock cooler. I then explained the pink milkshake I was trying to avoid. If I can somehow find a screenshot of my old temps I'll post them here. If I were to estimate I would say about a 15-20 degree drop versus stock??

Ive added oil coolers and trans coolers to units before and usually never bypass the stock cooler. I believe removing the stock cooler is not a good thing. Yes it stops the milkshake but for towing purposes I would see the bypassed cooler actually not working. I just wanted to see what changed. I will be doing it here soon when I bypass my cooler. I dont tow so not scared about the issue. The water cooler usually will never warm up past a certain point where air coolers once they get hot. They are 100% useless. Heat soak is not good.

What if you drive mountains and/or tow a lot?

Yesterday I went garage sailing and pulled a small trailer around and three people and saw the temps peak at about 160 with the outside temp around 60 degrees. If i ever observe anything crazy I'll probably just add a fan and switch to the cooler.

My wife and I have been talking about moving to Colorado in the future. After struggling to climb i-70 west of Denver in the heat of summer last year in a rental, I would without a doubt have a fan on it if I was out west.

Nah, the aftermarket passive cooler would be sufficient for what our trucks could tow, easily.
