My horn SUCKS Pleease help

So i have a 2010 4runner SR5, love the car, only issue i have is the lame high pitched horn that sounds exactly like a Honda civic horn. Ive used it twice and have had the car for over a year, after using it the first time, i laughed a bit, the second time i was embarrassed and decided never to use it ever again. People do things like cut me off every now and then and theres nothing i can do, im not one to give the finger and/or roll the window down to swear at them, so i just let people drive like retards and cant use my horn to notify them there idiots, so they continue doing dumb things while driving because they have no clue what they've done is dumb being i cannot use my horn to notify them,its just that embarrassing.

I know the Limited edition has a much better, low pitched, manlier sounding horn, would anyone have a used pair i can purchase? Or any after market ones that sound similar? Please help, I feel by not being able to use my horn, a monster is building up inside of me and may explode one day.

I'm driving a '12 limited and I'm not sure that my horn sounds any different than an SR5, FJ, Taco, Camery or Land cruiser. Don't let something like your horn rob you of "The Pride" obtained from owning the only(?) 'mid size' suv that still uses a 'Body-on-frame' design platform; a true credit to the Enormous suv population!

PS: Give it another week or two. If you still really want to change the horn timbre, you can go to amazon's Automotive department where they'll have a large selection of aftermarket truck accessories! Regards

From 2011 on, the 5th Gens have dual horns that sound much better than your single horn.

There is an easy and cheap fix.

Hella Superhorns

I use Hella Superhorns, as they are MUCH louder than the stock horns, but sound much better too--more european--than the stock junk. Definitely wakes up the sleepers & distracted.

Easy to install & you can put your stock horns back in before you sell your truck and use the Hellas inyour next vehicle.

I have had a 5th gen apart a few times and i know i can fit a similar if not larger setup in there. My cousin is trying to rub a few pennies together so we can start on his.

For really cheap, you can head down to a pick and pull salvage yard and pull off a couple of horns from a louder car and wire them up. I did this on a civic with salvage yard accord horns. I think i paid $2.

Try this: No cutting into factory wiring, but you do have to make your own harness and relay. They are definitely loud....Hella Loud

Regardless, reading your first post is concerning. You appear to place far to much importance on being able to 'honk' at people. You describe yourself as an overly aggressive and confrontational driver, the type I think many of us would like to see less of on the road. The horn is a tool used to avoid accidents and let other drivers know about dangerous road hazards.. not as a replacement to yelling or flipping the bird when someone cuts you off (which you have so described). I respect your anger and frustration at other drivers, but I have to say the intended purpose that you state for wanting a more powerful horn garners no sympathy from me.

If you're that concerned about people actually hitting you via cutting you off ect. perhaps look into a dash cam, might help with insurance as well. Living in California I fully expect people to cut me off.. daily... it's just how it goes out here. Stressing out about it does nothing to help me though, I just think of how silly they look when I pull up next to them at a stop light 20-seconds later.

How would you analyze me?

I know when I drive and hear a beep beep I associate it to a tiny Japanese mobile, when I hear a big horn like a train horn. ... naturally I think it's a large vehicle approaching. Just like when you hear a siren you look for the ambulance or police car.

we just traded a '10 SR5 and the horn was definitely disappointing. I rarely, if ever, honk at people, but I just avoided it all together, even for warning purposes because it sounded comically horrible for the size of the vehicle. my Golf has a beefier horn than the 2010 runners

In my book thats not an appropriate use of the horn. I did the FIAMM dual horn swap. Mounted both horns to the OE location. Then cut the OE plug and crimped on a new spade with a jumper to second spade to connect both horns. Painted everything black smith some high temp paint and viola! No need to wire new relay or extra long wiring. Sounds much better. And cheap. Get FIAMM horn mentioned in link [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] posted from Amazon.

this topic has been done to death. wiring up dual horns is quick, simple (no relay required), and completely eliminates the "meep-meep" syndrome suffered by all 2010 4Runners that came from the factory with the single horn.
