My insurance is throught the roof!

I went to Geico, and it was much cheaper. On the order of 400 dollars every 6 months cheaper.

Why? No idea. Honestly. Each company uses similar data, but each usually has its own variable formula used to determine the qoute.

I'm guessing you probably got less coverage with Geico, like one of those 15/30 policies I mentioned earlier. Like anything else, you get what you pay for. And the rates really don't differ all that much between companies. The actuarial depts all use the same sort of math to calculate your "risk".

When you get a "deal" from an insurance company (unless you are combining home, auto, life, etc..), it's usually because they just cut your coverage in 1/2 and don't tell you why they were able to save you 1/2 off. And most people are ok with that because they aren't thinking about, "what would happen if I hit a $50K car instead of a $10K car?" at the time they sign the policy. But, just make sure your insurance is going to realistically cover the cost of replacing a modern car. Otherwise you will get sued and have your wages garnished to cover the difference.

Keep in mind, most rates for the same exact insurance only differs about 10-15% between companies (not the 50-60% they try to make you believe on their commercials). So when that killer rate from Geico seems too good to be true, it usually is.

...Just some thoughts from a former insurance salesman.

Also. Most companies rates depend on their current loss ratios. If they are paying out more than they take in, their rates will raise. Vice versa.

I will tell you though, moving companies alot will not help you. Most insurers are looking for stability. They want to see "continuous" coverage with one company. That's when you will see your best rates.

Yep. I bumped my property damage up to $100k after the ARB. I don't want a lawsuit. And if it ever happens, id rather not pay it out of my pocket since I don't have that kind of cash. I think most of the people on here should take a close look to see what they really have. The fine print isn't so fine when something happens.

One more thought and im done. . . Most might have the "but my vehicle isn't worth thar much why is it so expensive?" Mentality. We'll. Their judging it on your vehicle and how.much damage you could "potentially" cause to another person or their property. Its way deeper than it seems.

I stayed on my parents policy after I turned 21 because it is just too cheap not to. 100/300 liability only costs me $159 for 6 months on the 4runner. I couldnt touch that on my own. I have the good student/good driver discount and that helps it too. We have everything under 1 company and they cut all the rates.

Im surprised they were cool with me staying on the policy.

$600 a month is stupid. I use to have a point on my record and even being under 18 it was about $80 a month

thread hijack:
I had a 2001 TL before the 4Runner, traded it in at a huge loss after the 6 or 7th transmission replacement.
Some were dying on the new car drive out from the dealer or on the way to park on the showroom floor. Major design defect - did they ever fix the root cause ? Some replacement transmissions had a bigger hole drilled somewhere to let more oil hit the 900deg F 3rd gear clutch pack.

Thankful for the conventional design of the 4R's transmission, series planetary gear sets rather than the Acura's manual transmission behind a torque converter with computer controlled shifts.

No. They band-aided it to satisfy the class-action case. That's part of the reason why I'm here also. I was on my 3rd and it was acting up. Switched to non-friction modified fluid on the last tranny to see if it would help - it did for a short period, but the design flaw was still a flaw.

As far as insurance and the OP is concerned, I'd suggest you shop around or lower the coverage on the Runner - something doesn't seem right - my insurance went DOWN when I replaced the 02 TL with the 02 Runner.

Atlanta man: Yeah i know my year Acura is known for tranmission defects, Ive had it since 80K and no issues, Ive read ones go out at 30K miles and some never go out at 200K, so im just praying mine lasts
