My Kid Wants My Stereo! What do I replace it with?

Ok, I know this isn't really 4Runner related (well, it is kind of....) But I have a single DIN stereo right now, and my Daughter really wants it for her Jeep. She said she will pay half of my new one when I decide to get it. What I want is this.....

Double DIN, GPS, Bluetooth, Remote, Android (use apps to read OBDii if I want, or other things. Unless there's another way to do it with this unit). I'm not looking for $1000 unit. Don't even need a CD\DVD player. Just something to listen to the radio or Pandora or my phone.

From my research, I've found several that are close to what I'm looking for, but not everything. Maybe missing the remote, or GPS runs off your phone, and not the unit itself....

Can I get some help with some ideas, or someone whose a stereo guru could point me in the right direction?

Check out app radio, with jail breaks for smart phones you can completely mirror the phone to the head unit. Leaves no reason to spend the extra few hundred dollars on GPS when your phone supplies it.
 
I just bought a JVC head unit from walmart a few weeks ago to throw in my 4runner. The head unit, adapter and mounting kit total was around $150. It sounds good, and has bluetooth, aux input, usb, fm/am and cd. Also added the 12v outlet/usb power/volt gauge for i think $35 off ebay

I was just looking at those on Amazon last night. Actually the 4700 and the 4800. Tempting. Looking at that GPS add on for $400 is a lot. Though I could use my phone like another person mentioned.

Are there head units that do this? Can I leave the sender plugged in all the time?

I have a Pioneer AVIC z110 BT sitting around unused. It's upgraded to the z130 firmware (or maybe 140? Whatever the latest Pioneer released). It's also been cracked to not have the "DON'T TOUCH THIS THING WHILE DRIVING!" startup message show up anymore. It was a good head unit for the most part but could be a little temperamental, where the voice command for the iPod wouldn't work right. I was hanging on to it but recently decided that I'm not going to reinstall it. If you're interested I'm thinking $375 shipped is a good deal.

I don't know about a wireless remote, but there is an optional wired remote as that's how the steering wheel integration worked.
 
How exactly does GPS off your phone work? Does it pull the maps from your phone or is it just to get the location? Does the nav system still work when you're not in service? I know the GPS function on my phone still will work even when I'm not in service, but it won't pull up any maps.

Sorry if this is a tangent, but I have a GPS unit in my car now, but it is getting outdated and looking at upgrading too.

Most new radios with GPS navigation come from your phone maps and it's good because it's always up to date when the older navs aren't , the only bad thing about them for me is that it uses my mobile data when I connect my phone to gps when driving, it should work while not in service it would be sort of useless if it didn't work, that hast happened to me yet.
 
[MENTION=73515]ajonesnv[/MENTION] has a real nice unit that didn't cost to much. It's a Chinese knockoff of something. Works great.

Nope, if it's a nav unit, it's a dedicated nav unit. It might augment with data from your phone, like weather and traffic conditions, etc. but it's not reliant on it. The Android Auto, Apple Carplay, and AppRadio apps are phone based but even those HUs still have dedicated GPS/navigation in the high-end units. That's in addition to supporting Apple/Google Maps, Waze, etc.
