Looks great. The more I see white, the more I like them. You sure do have some work to do, but it has got to be twice as fast the second time around. Speaking of fast, I'm curious why you didn't wait to get the 2005 V8. Anyway, congratulations.

One more question: Is kglueck the first on here to get a used 4th gen and also the first to trade in his 4th gen for another 4th gen?

I think I might be the first to get a used 4th gen...I bought my used 2003 in february of 2003.

I don't think I am the first to trade in a 4th gen...I seem to remember someone else posing something a while back...don't remember who, though.

well, the usual stuff. check out the thread Thai posted here (confessions of a car salesman) and then just know your numbers and be prepared. Know what your vehicle is worth to you and walk out if they low ball you anywhere. seriously. I bet you don't make it to the door if your expectations are realistic. Also, I'd work with the internet sales team rather than the regular sales guys.

Your new white one is super. I'm glad I don't have to do all the wiring you have. But I bet you have it done within 2 weeks!

I bought my 03 Sport in Nov. 03 and then traded it in May 04 for a 04 Sport.

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, it'll be slow going getting things installed back in there...I did install an antenna on the hood edge last night after I mowed the lawn... (Had to reward myself for doing the mowing...) Only installed the one antenna as it was still hotter than hades out, even though it was 8 or 9pm...But I am taking friday off, so we'll see what gets installed then... :)

Update

Stuff I've installed:
  • removed factory running boards
  • two hood-mounted antennas installed, using comet RS-720NMO mounts
  • navigation unit reinstalled (yeah, that took only 2 and a half days of driving without it for me to take a vacation day and install it)
  • ordered/received/installed the t4r.org sticker (that was fast, greg, thanks!)
  • ordered a spare sticker for my "canadian" bug shield for the front when I get off my duff and order it.
  • ordered/received/installed my new black husky liners

Stuff left to do:
  • reinstall the backup camera (already ran the video line to the back)
  • install new large gauge wiring to power my devices...haven't decided on 4 gauge or 0 gauge yet. but I'll be ordering plenty if people want to split an order...
  • install the ham radios
  • maybe sliders?
  • but definitely go get her dirty again!

Congrats on your new Runner nice! We were in the market of either a black or white one but i guess the best choice for us is the Galactic Gray Mica, Well congrats on your new trade in!
 
thanks, guys! I'm thinking tonight is the night to at least get some radios installed...I'm not liking not having them!

on the last 4r, I did have a VERY tight tolerance. this time, I moved the mounts a little bit closer to the windshield side of the hood. I've got plenty of room (read, 1 or 2mm). I did make a piece of metal to stick in and help hold the wire in, tho. The move didn't seem to adversely affect the swr of the antenna so I'm happy.

I'll take a picture if you like, but I do like these mounts. they are pretty cheap too. for just the mount hardware (i.e. no antenna wire or thing the antenna screws onto) it's like $25. w/ cable and a mount it's closer to $50ish. but the nice thing they do w/ the ones that come with cable is use a short piece of the antenna wire that is much smaller diameter (dunno the RG version) and then take it up to RG58 after about 4 inches. That helps to take care of tight tolerances...

Diamond also makes a pretty good mount. don't remember the model number, but...

(BTW- I ordered that guidebook on friday...arrived on monday...very quick! Nice book too, thanks for the recommendation!)

well, I took some pics before I headed into work and just looked at them and the ones that would have shown the most aren't the best. I played with brightness and contrast in pshop to show it a bit better...guess I shouldn't have been in such a hurry, but hey...

I'd say on one side it touches but the rg58 has enough jacket to protect it. seems ok. the other side has about .5mm to 1mm clearance. it's tight, but works ok. I had one of these on the passenger side (the one that is and was touching a bit) for about a year and never had trouble with it. the antenna tuned down to a 1.05 to 1.1ish swr, which is respectable...
