My new (used) '98 T4R

Well I am new to the forum. This weekend I picked up my first T4R. I got a good deal on a '98 Limited 4WD with a Rear Locking Dif and a TRD Supercharger. I rolled it over 173k miles on the way home. Ive only had it for less than 48 hours but I already love it! It has some little things that need work. The clock doesn't work. I tried to solder the pins on but that didn't fix it. I do have 12V coming out of the harness though so something else might be wrong with the clock. It doesn't have an antenna so I am going to go by the dealership tomorrow and pick up the parts to do the Taco Whip upgrade. I will probably get together what I need to do the front brake upgrade as well. Everything else is mechanically sound. Only thing that probably needs to be done soon is the supercharger will need rebuilding soon. Other than that, she is perfect and I can't wait to take her hunting with me this coming weekend. I'll wait until next year before I start lifting and all that. I know once I start, I won't be able to stop. Y'all have a great forum here and I'm glad i found it. I look forward to learning more and enjoying many years to come with my new toy

Did you get that from a dealer in Chatanooga? One similar to that has popped up a few times lately. If it is, good score...from everything we saw it was nice and pretty well priced.

I did. He specializes in SR5's and hooked me up with a great deal. I'm going to head over to the dealership in a little bit and get what i need to do the antenna. Nothing bugs me more than radio with static lol.

I'm glad you bought it. Now I can quit thinking about buying it. If it looks as good in person as it did in the pictures, you got yourself a good one.

haha thanks. Yeah I took it down to get detailed today and everybody was complimenting me on how new it looks. They couldn't believe it was a 98. I did make it by the dealership today to order that antenna assembly. I think it was around $60 tax and all. So hopefully tomorrow I will have a working radio again!

I also just picked up a supercharged 4Runner and am local. Bought the truck last month and the motorized antenna failed a couple weeks ago. Did the taco whip swap out and it's working great again... it did take me a good bit longer than I expected though. Maybe 4hrs?

I'm about to start searching around for a s/c rebuilder, but it looks like I'll have to send it off in any case. You have any ideas of who will do yours or do you think you'll give the rebuild a shot yourself?

Thanks. I figured as big as Huntsville is there has to be someone else around here lol. I stopped by Bill Penny and picked up what i needed to do the taco whip swap out but havent got to it yet. will probably do it friday afternoon.

mine is probably going to need a rebuild soon. i have 173k miles on suv but I dont know how many are on the s/c. Probably at least 100k though. i figured i would have to send mine off as well. Even though i do most of my own work, i don't think i want to attempt to rebuild a s/c.

Well Friday I went in to get an alignment and they had to replace a tie rod. So i got that taken care of and got ready for my hunting trip this weekend. Saturday found me 5 miles down a little logging trail off the main road. My first chance to use 4wd and it just ate that trail up. Heres a couple pics I took from where I ended up parking at.

That trip was all backroad highway miles and I got about 18.5mpg so with the s/c, I think that isn't too bad. Today I hit up another property and drove part of the way back down one of the trails. It was really steep ups and downs but it handled it like a boss! Heres a pic of that trail. It was steeper that it looks lol.

I am very impressed and happy with my T4R. Best purchase I've made in a long time. Now to convince the wife that we need to trade her car in for a 2nd T4R....
