So Toytec did not offer a replacement.. just 10% off, since im just outside of the 1 yr warranty. Im a little upset having a broken shock after less than 8k on my truck and hardly any off road use. I don't feel like buying anything from them anymore. Where should I get new rear shocks?

If it were me , I would not buy another one from them. There are plenty of lifetime warranty products out there and companys that will stand behind them.
What was the diameter of the top shaft? Maybe you don't have them any more? Just wanted to give you a little more ammo to complain with. When mine broke I had not even went off road yet. I was going down a gravel washboard road but yes it was still under warranty. The big thing was I that it was installed through an off road shop so they had a lot of pull here in Colorado. I can't really get to the shaft diameter but the nut is 3/4. When I got mine fixed on warranty the shop said that they had really beefed up the top of the shock. Since this was replaced I have not had any trouble and have been off road a bit. I would not personally do any more business with them if they don't help you out. I can't recommend any other shock as I do not have any other experience. Hope this helps!!
Update - After they told me no its not covered, I figured what the heck..I'll just send all the info I've seen on FJ forums and some of the info mentioned here and finally they are able to give me a replacement. They also suggested I buy another shock to replace the other side. So I bought the 2nd shock plus shipping. Im happy they finally decided it was right to get me a replacement but did I really have to jump through that many hoops. And did it have to take this long? :shrug: Since it took so long, I almost bought Icons; I got a good offer and free shipping.
Good deal. My experience is that Toytec has very good customer service. Was a bit surprised when you originally said they wouldnt warranty it. Glad you hit them up again and they changed their mind. And, I dont think the two days that passed between their original answer is very long at all...esp considering a lot of people are out of the office between Xmas and New Years.
Got my replacement shocks in today and got them installed. Definitely different. Bushings are narrow but thicker and fit into the grooves of the mounting point. The lower washer also had a lip, i'm guessing they did that to help ppl center the shock on install.

Agh. Exact same thing just happened to me. Looking around here and the web, this isn't an install issue, it's a design issue. Too many episodes of this.

I just talked to them on the phone. Very nice service guy. They admitted that this was a design issue (the prior 2.0 version shaft was too narrow and bushings too hard). Offered free replacement, and 2 for 1 if I wanted to replace both. Perhaps not ideal, but fair enough given outside of warrantee etc I suppose. Gave me a bit more of a break when I said I needed to do it overnight, so happy overall.
