Finally replaced my Whistler that was back for 97'! That thing still works great though.

Now I just have to figure out how I really want to 'wire it up'. I have seen the mod for hooking it up to the rear-view mirror power, but that means the detector has to be mounted up there. I would still like the unit mounted just above the dash so I was thinking of going this way...

The issue here is that I do NOT want to get into removing the dash panels. Things just never seem to go back as tight as factory it seems. Anyone installed this before or have any thoughts/hints/suggestions? Thanks!

Love my x50 black...mounted it right up above the mirror, to the left. Fits perfectly.

I am saving up for the Laser diffuser and the Redline detector, I plan on using Littlefuse add a fuse to permanently power both of them.

When I first saw your subject, I thought, this one will get moved, and wondered why would you post about a Ford Escort here :lmao:...

I think the 8500x50/red/blue are great units. I bought my x50Blue in 07, took it from Mississippi, to California, it alerted me in time, and I saved some money... I put the x50Red in this 4R-LTD with the same good results. Both are hard-wired in. I think Escort was offering up to $80. trade in, so your "Whistler" could be worth a few dollars. Call Escort and ask them. :cheers:
