Mysterious Engine Tube

let me just say up front I know almost nothing about auto maintenance & I own a 2004 V6 4Runner.
They guy at the oil lube place told me that I had a missing dipstick.
The engine oil dipstick was in the front (and still there) but there is a tube behind that that is open & looks like a dipstick could / should go there (both on the left side of the engine).
I read on this forum that there is not a transmission dipstick on the 2004 4runner which is what I thought was missing...
Can anyone tell me if that open tube should have a dipstick & what it is used for?

The 2003/4 V6 4-speed (A343) DOES have a dipstick. The 2004+ A750 found on the V8, and 05+ V6 does NOT.
