I wish i had more of this area, it was a great trail and was a nice challenge going down. Going up would be a real beast, i dont plan on trying until i have locked the rear on my truck. The OME 890s have really started to give under the extra weight of the CBI and spare tire. I scored a deal on a set of new Superflex coils that i will be installing soon, along with turning up my Icons a turn or two.

Thanks man, I think you and a few others can relate when i say, if i can build for a better time for when i have my wife with me, or even a kid one day; its worth it. The day of the break i had a friend with me, he didnt mind the break and having to turn around. But had it been Kelley, it would have been a different story, and it would have a lasting negative impression on her of what could happen when we go out into the wilderness. And yeah, breakage sucks!

Ouch, damn homey! I figured there are only so many ways to put a spin on a silver-ish 4runner. Didnt want you or Nick thinking i was a poser! haha. Stay tuned for more color-matched goodness in 5-6 weeks.

I love the bumper and the peace of mind is awesome with the beefy new axles. I have a very "Southeastern" style of driving and its nice being able to throttle down without too much worry to clear a killer ledge. AND if i happen to blow a front diff, guess its time for an upgrade! :fro:

Fifteen minutes after i finished swapping in my new Superflex coils out back.




This past Sunday on a mild shakedown run before a big toyota get together over the holiday weekend. Ironically i was the only toyota of the group.







Small rock garden that stretches for a hundred yards or so. Could be fun in the rain, mighty slick rocks!


Ignore my goofy ass, the overlook was incredible. A looooong drop a couple feet behind me, straight down!

Man, I'd like to get down there and take a ride with you guys sometime. All of these trip reports you're posting look like FUN, and your pictures are the first that I've seen of any of those trails/terrain. You're definitely putting that rig though it's paces, and you wheel a lot more than most of us get to.

Sounds like you've got a front bumper in the works... can't wait to see it! I like the color matching you've done... I've always wondered what it would look like to have aftermarket F/R bumpers color matched.

Thanks Jon, Keep up?! I more than kept up, made sure to do everything and more than the jeeps all while being the oldest vehicle there. We had a good time though, but a group of jeeps arent the friendliest bunch. I really like the new coils, they have a more progressive rate to them, i get a bit more body roll on the street but man are they comfortable! They are supporting the ass end pretty well so far also.

Also found this Elk shed, those are 12" tiles by the way.

One of these days Nick, you've got to get down here and wheel with us! All my life i have wanted to live somewhere that i could be on a trail with 15-30 minutes from my driveway and now i am, I get to wheel at least twice a month currently. Im a lucky man for sure. Cheesy i know, but im living the dream! haha

After swapping in the new coils i still managed to bottom out the rear end taking some whoops too fast, the factory bumpstops are a joke. When they make contact it feels like metal on metal. I made a set of bump extensions a while back that i was planning on using once i upgraded to something with some more kush to it. I had seen on Wheeler's website that they had developed what they call Superbumps and selling them for the newer toyotas, they have great reviews and the prices are more than reasonable, cheaper than options from Daystar and Prothane. All while supporting a forum vendor. I called and talked to Dan and he sold me the rear superbumps without any brackets or hardware as i knew i would come up with something on my own.

Once in hand i could tell they were going to be a great improvement over stock, the length was about the same as the stockers. Seeing as they would hae more give to them though i wanted a little more clearance so i cut a piece of 1/4" flat bar to fit my other brackets bolted everything together and WHAMMY, they fit perfect.

They look black normally, something about the sunset gave them a strange purple color. Here you can see my drop bracket setup.



Here is contact with the stock bump and 2" drop.


Here is the Superbump contact with the 2 1/4" drop. Unlike the stockers, these line up perfectly over the axle.


Test spot a few minutes from the house.

I'm sure your trip will be a blast as well, though. Those pictures of the rig are like the ones that people post where a hot gal is holding something (ie a bumpstop) for the picture, and everyone looks at it and goes "There's a bumpstop in that photo???"

I keep getting the urge to color match my F/R bumpers & sliders.

Here you go bud, the fronts are a softer durometer than the rears. So when you call Dan just tell him you want the rears without the brackets and hardware, the bolts i sent with the brackets should work perfectly. The price of just the bumps is $50 before shipping.

SUPERBUMP Bumpstops from Wheeler's Off-Road

Update on the bumpstops, I love them! The feel is great as it compresses and rebounds, a gentle thunk as opposed to a loud and violent bang! I am really happy with my current suspension setup both front and rear, the Icon coilovers are awesome no matter what i throw at them and the rear setup is a dream now.

Here are some cool pictures from this past Sunday's ride, seven trucks total. All Toyotas, no breakdowns but a buddy destroyed the sidewall on a bfg at. One FJ40 on 33s, another on 36s. An 81 Toyota on 31s that was awesome, my 4runner on 32s(no locker), my buddy's stock 4runner on 32s (e/locker), a 2nd gen Taco on 33s, and another 2nd gen Taco on 34s. It was an awesome group to say the least.

The awesome rock canyon we spent the last few hours in is only about 3/4 mile long but is very challenging and body damage is likely, sliders and high clearance bumpers front and rear will get put to use, along with all of your skidplates! No one else in the group had ever run the trail called "Baby Rattlesnake" so i was the trail leader.

We start out in a creek bed canyon



Constant water keeps things interesting, made it up by the way.

Pictures will just never do trails justice, this section had so many peaks and holes that you really had to pick a careful line and a slow pace to keep from throwing your truck into the out-reaching boulders on either side.

No problem dude, I really like the damping action that they provide. I would recommend them to anyone who bounces off their bumps frequently.



I know there has been some talk lately about whether or not LCA bolts require skid protection, well, I will say that I need it! Sometime a little momentum can make or break you on a slick climb and this past weekend some momentum was halted abruptly by a rock ledge that would have annihilated the mount for my passenger lower control arm. Hard enough hit to dent and distort the 3/16" steel.




Ive already put lots of "character" into my stock gas tank skid but i think i almost got myself in trouble last sunday. Does everyone's stock tank have this indentation? I dented and flattened the stock skid just underneath so i am thinking i was close to punching a hole in it. Not to mention both of my lowers are bent now, I need to hit the lottery.



The dent I'm pretty sure shouldn't be there.



And this is what a sharp rock does to a BFG AT, we changed it out on the trail NASCAR style.

Wow your 4runner is looking awesome! I don't know if you mentioned it before, but what front bumper are you going with? I have to say that BFG AT sidewalls aren't the strongest I've seen. I took chunks out of both my fronts my last wheeling trips. Keep up the good work and I'm intrigued by this new mod you're hinting at.
