NAV Wire Mod Hack

Thanks for the pic. I just (yesterday) did the final hookup of the JA Box. It was that connector and the light blue (Sea Blue) wire. Not too sure what the connector designation is though. It looks like it is G9, pin 3 as shown in the Wiring Diagram for Audio w/ built-in amplifier. I have the non-JBL system w/ Nav & Entunes.

I ended up mounting the switch to the JA Box and attaching to that Trap Door inside Glove Box. It is reachable from Drivers Seat so I can turn on the box as needed. Got power from one of the "switched" circuits of the Painless Fuse Box and used a 3A (smallest I had) Fuse.

This is a must do mod as there are no longer any lockouts when driving. Total cost for parts is about $15 from Jameco.

Has anyone figured out any bypass for the 15' LE system? I see the earlier years and wonder if there have been any changes made. Since the 8/20/15 entune update I have also lost my Bluetooth connectivity a few times and had to reboot phone and system. Anyone else having any issues?

2015 Limited. I built the 555 circuit and it turns out you don't need it. Just opening the VSS/SPD wire does the trick! You'll still need a switch to go back and forth.

2015 Limited. I built the 555 circuit and it turns out you don't need it. Just opening the VSS/SPD wire does the trick! You'll still need a switch to go back and forth.

Good find!!! This seems to make sense since when stopped, the wheel sensors don't generate pulses.

As I understand it, previous models would require the 555. If no signal is detected and the GPS senses motion, the nav will lockout. Can anyone clarify what year/trim this changed?

I am ready to do this mod. I've got a 2014 Trail Premium with Entune & Navigation. I don't know much about wiring... But this seems pretty easy.

Diddley.bo = Do you know if the system above is the same system as in your 2015 Limited?

If yes... Do you have any pics of which wire you cut?

I'm thinking an AoB switch in the "party mode" blank above a driver's right knee would be the perfect incognito place to too. It's right next to the Nav system and I'd just have to find a low amp source to power the light switch when it is on, right?

I wish I could tell you. I'll take pics of the labels and service menu and you can compare. I know it is not the Harman labeled unit in the 2012 Trail.

I would still go for it. It's just a question as to whether or not you need the 555.

For the LED, you could pull power from the back of the unit. I will annotate one of the pics.

I have read a few of these bypass threads but haven't found anything recent. I see on this thread (thank you!) it was discovered a few models didn't need the signal generator anymore. I found in the Tundra forums they only needed to access the VSS as well ref 2014 Bluetooth/Navigation lockout while in montion - TundraTalk.net - Toyota Tundra Discussion Forum so I have high hopes I can do the same.

Can't even scroll Pandora stations beyond a couple taps on the screen. Ridiculous. Feel like I have been put in Toyota time out. Does anyone know if we only need to access the VSS wire for a 2016 Entune with Nav - non-JBL to enable the bypass?

With the VSS open it will eventually throw a fault causing the check engine light (CEL), TRAC light, and the multi terrain green blinking truck light to all come on.

I will say it is nice to be able to use the head unit, scroll Pandora, use the dial pad (example on voice mail to delete a message or skip) so I would love to hear any thoughts.

Am I doing something wrong? Basically the switch just opens/closes the circuit. Any help appreciated.

You said "eventually". How long does it take? I usually switch back when I'm done doing whatever I need, because it locates the vehicle a lot better. I have noticed that if I forget to switch back it eventually gives up and works on GPS only, but I have not gotten any dash lights. I can switch VSS open for a while and see what happens.

Wild shot but maybe worth mentioning. My instrumentation cluster went stupid a few times, traction stuff, one time no speedo, when I left my ODBII adapter connected. This was before the nav mod.

Update: I've had the signal open for days now and no adverse effects. I've pretty much isolated the issues shown on the instrumentation cluster to the ODBII adapter, as suspected.

Appreciate the reply as it made me go back and look through my pictures I took, luckily I saw it right away, soldered a third wire into there. Instead of opening it, the VSS was being sent to ground. Thank god I didn't hurt the ECU. All good now. I actually wired it to have to push the switch to close it it so it works like normal. Love having it off all the time as I never use the nav (GPS works fine) and I can use my dial pad and scroll radio and Pandora stations as if i was sitting in the parking lot. Such a useful mod.
