Need Help: Auto-Dimming Mirror Install

OK, that's the right connector in the picture above (IE1). A9 should be on the outermost column on the left side, at the bottom. Check it again, it should have power with the ignition circuit. As somebody else mentioned, A9 is the power wire for the rear 12V power outlet.
The Yellow/Red wire you've used is D5 and provides power to the LH tension reducer solenoid. Technically speaking, your way is closer to an OEM mirror install because they're both powered by the same 15A IG1 circuit instead of the 15A PWR Outlet circuit.

Am I going to run into problems with leaving the wiring as I did it using yellow/red wire? I'll have to search around for a wiring diagram. The rear accessory plug would probably be better since that's not something I'd ever really use.
I've only had the truck for a little over a week and haven't looked into repair books or anything yet to give some reference.

Great and thanks for the heads up. How did you get a copy of the manuals on pdf? Were they cheaper than the printed copies?

I got the complete 04 manual set on CD from ebay but you can actually download the manuals directly from Toyota for like $5/day -- though they are broken up into hundreds of files! If you just want the wiring manual and not the others, there is a link to the 03 manual (reassembled) pdf around here somewhere. There not much difference between 03-04. I suppose the 05 V8 engine wiring might be slightly different.

So am I correct in assuming that I may tap into either the A9 or the D5 wire as the end result will be exactly the same?
(I wish I had time to complete the install this weekend, but I am going to the L.A. Auto Show.)

I already stated my technical opinion on the issue. On the otherhand, if we assume that there was some valid reason for the factory to choose A9 over D5 then it probably makes more sense to stick with A9. If you happen to have electrical problems in the future, it might be marginally better if the dealership found the mirrored wired per Toyota's instructions.

The pages referrring to the area in question were easy to find, and clearly indicate the location of the A9 wire. I'm sure that entire document will also come in handy with other mods down the line. I am now very confident that I have more than enough info to perform the installation of the mirror, and I am looking forward to it as soon as I have time.

Attempted to install the mirror this afternoon, I thought I got it at first but now all my instrument lights are on. I don't know if this is due to incorrect wiring to if I may have shorted something, I did do all the work with the negative wire disconnected from the battery.
Anyhow, I notice that no one mentions the yellow wire. Does anyone else have a yellow wire along with the red & the black/ground wire?
Where does the yellow go? The manual says it needs to go to a terminal where there is a 12volt current running even while the vehicle is in the "off" position. Anyone have any idea which terminal this yellow one would go to or is it not needed?
As for the red wire I believe I connected it to A9, which I believe is to the left of the bolt/screw. I had to unscrew and take out the assembly and splice into the wire with the T connector, barely had enough red wire.

The instrument lights are normal again, not sure what happened but after a nights rest it seems to have quelled itself.

Wanted to add to this thread since i just finished installing my gentex mirror and the brown/red wire is there in position A9. Problem is you cannot see A9. looking straight on the connector it is lower left corner. I pulled back some of the electrical tape to make it easier to find and tap. Attached is a close-up of the connector Diagram so you can see where it is.

Maybe you got one that slipped through QC at Mito and had a shorter than normal wire. I actually ended up with about 4" left over that I had to wire tie under the dash. Once I got to the bottom of the A-pillar I taped the wire to a wrench and dropped it through the dash and came out directly next to the connector block.
i got my mirror from ebay for ~$50 and it was marked as coming from a 1999 seville.
worked fine.
also, i had a fuse 'splitter' from my old car so i just kept testing the fuses until i found ignition on power and then plugged in the splitter which has another fuse in parallel with the original fuse and i was good to go.
i really enjoy the mirror.
