Sounds like a fender liner mod is all you need. Easy and simple fix.

Kinda surpised discount tires sold that combo to you. That size tire is only recommended for 7.5-8.5 inch rims. Don't get me wrong, I have seen plenty of people run that size combo with no problems, but I wouldn't think they would go against cooper's wheel width recommendations (it is just a tire store, maybe they don't even check stuff like that).

It looks nice though. I have the same rims with 285's on my mag grey TE.
 
Tons of guys here mount these same Coopers on the OEM wheels, which are the exact size of the new wheels I have. I tried doing all my homework before making the purchase and this is the first I've heard about this.

Also both wheels and tires are exact size match for the OEM setup.
 
Sorry, I was mistaken. The AT3 are recommended for 7-8.5 inch wheels. As opposed to my initial post about 7.5-8.5" Sorry about that.

That recommendation is for the LT rated tires. The P rated tires say its good for 7-9" rims. Don't recall you stating which ones you went with (I can't find exact specs for the ATP though so if its different, flame away).

Those wheels are not OEM size. OEM for the sr5 is 17x7 as opposed to 17x9 for the rhinos.

For the ATP I went with E rated, the heavier 10 ply sidewall. Went into discount today to get lug nuts re-torqued and they said it'd be no issue size wise.
 
I'm sure you will be fine. Like I mentioned, I've seen plenty of people run that combo. I was just surprised that they would exceed the approved rim size for that tire (again, using the AT3 specs from cooper, maybe ATPs are different, but I thought they were just named differently for discount tire) because of liability issues.

There are a lot smarter people than me that may bring up any potential issues (or correct me) on here, but my only concern would be if you were to air down significantly which maybe increase the chance of losing the bead while wheeling.
 
Okay, that makes sense mechanically. I appreciate all you guys contributing to this thread... I'm already learning a ton here. After my lift I do plan on going 285/70/17 at least and if the Coopers do well for me I'd buy em again in that size. Now I just gotta choose which lift to get!

I just drove on the highway with these and had a slight steering wheel shimmer at 65-85mph range. Something to be worried about?

Probably just a balance issue. Bring them back where you got them and ask them to recheck the balance.

Thanks for the tip. Lucky me, I'm driving back 6 hours home tomorrow on the highway to a state with no Discount Tires... Hmmm. I guess I'll get it looked at as soon as I can. Makes me wish Discount Tire wasn't closed on Sundays!
