Need help w leaking rear diff / third member

Giving my runner a once over before a road trip of about 1500 miles.

Noticed a squeak while in drive yesterday. Found my 3rd member kinda leaky (let the jokes roll). Added 1.25 qrts of Mobil synthetic 75w90 (that's what I had laying around).

My trip is to go see a family member that won't be alive much longer - need to leave ASAP.

Would you drive this 1500 miles? If I do go, I will bring my pump, diff fluid etc and keep it topped off.

The third member was put in about 43k ago. Purchased from ECGS. Dissapointed it's leaking. What seal would this be?

It's the pinion seal. That doesn't look to be leaking bad enough to be that low on gear oil. Just don't park on a hill going down and you should be fine.

Should be good. How much accumulating on ground while parked? Just bring some fluid with you and check it when you get there or during trip.

Something that could have happened is an excessive amount of fluid...but your fine it is not a big leak

Topping off the gear oil and greasing all zerk fittings did not solve the squeak in the driveline. Only happens in drive when stepping on gas at low rpms 0 - 15 mph. Still sound like pinion seal?

A leaky pinion seal isn't going to create a squeak. I'd be looking at the ujoints.

That's more of a seepage than a leak anyhow.

Fill it to the right level and go to your destination, you don't have to worry about it because it is a toyota. Things won't leak and break down until you reach your destination with a toyota. (I hope the seal is toyota too).

Then before your return, simply unscrew the fill bolt and see it is up to the level. If not, fill it and drive back home. Toyota's are amazing....
