So I went and bought some Rigid Dually's on an impulse thinking that i could mount them similar to this


[MENTION=88576]smkd13[/MENTION] and i scrached our heads for a while, he said no way, unless I have fabbing skills which i dont obviously. Anyway i took things apart and tried to experiment a liitle, I feel like I'm close bur wanted to see what kind of other creativity there is out there. Share your ideas!!!

BTW I DON'T want to mount these on the bumper, IMO they look a little out of place on a stock bumper. They are the spots, so they need to be up higher so they can serve a purpose over my HID's haha.

but yeah, If I cant find a place to mount these a little higher then I just might have some rigids for sale here soon lol!

a bracket I made with a sledge hammer and a dremel. I dont think i can get it to work...

I thought about this not too long ago also. The only places I could think of would involve putting a screw into the body.

Thats why I just decided to wait for a roof rack. (someday)

Im definitely interested in seeing what you decide to do though.
 
Alright, I got a couple quick and as youll see really rough ideas for you. But first, I love the idea, so I encourage you to keep at it until you figure out a way to make it work.

First is to simply bend the bottom of your new bracket up a bit more to fit the shape of the base there, as seen here.



Second, and probably the way I would do it is to make a bracket like this next picture, that allows you to mount it cleanly down In the windshield cowl like you are, but puts it a little closer up the windshield and a pillar...



I hope my 10 second ideas at midnight are helpful. But like I said, figure it out, its a great idea. And definitely unique.
 
Or even if you rotated that second idea 90º or so, to put it out over the fender more so, so that it wouldnt interfere with the hood. Altnough might not be an issue, the duallys are pretty little iirc.
 
Use one of these, bolt it onto the top of the fender under the hood and the mount will stay in place as the hood can go up and down as it needs to.

So it would be next to the hood not behind it, but you could mount in pretty far back to be by the windshield
 
Wow these are great ideas, Thanks guys! My fab tools are unfortunately limited. I wish I had a vise where I could bend things easier.

I just thought of something else that might work after looking at my first pic. Let me know if you guys think there will be a problem. But basically turn the L-bracket so it faces down , one end will just wedge down into that little void and then for the other end, ill use that bolt for the wiper motor, on the top, then drill one more hole into the metal so it wont move. I think This can work! And it's easy with minimal drilling into my truck.

I was thinking on trying an antenna mount too, I may do to that if I can't get this figured out. I've got a hunting trip coming up in a few days, my dad said he wants to see how my truck can do out in the sticks. I gotta make it happen! Anyway I'm hoping to get some more light up on my rig before the trip.

Magnet mount them on the hood. That way you can pull them when you dont need them. I made a magnet mount for my GoPro using a CB antenna mount from Harbor Freight.

This would also allow you to turn/place them anywhere you need light, say on a trail at night when you need light under the rig to fix something.
 
CBI sent me some bumper prototype pics before I ordered my front bumper and they had lights mounted up near the windshield. From the pics they look like they used brackets like the cb antenna bracket above but being a fab shop they probably made them themselves. Might be worth calling them to see how they did it.

This is the same antenna mount I had on my Tacoma up on the hood as suggested and it worked awesome for that and I never had any rust or paint wear problems with it there.
 
I'm gonna go that ^^^ route if this one ends of giving me trouble. cause holy hell it was a pain in the ass! um lets just say it took me all day to get this far and I took that plastic piece out several times. I eventually had to just mount everything but the lights on to the vent thing then put it in ad drill it to the bracket. Everything is pretty solid. I gave them both a good tug and pull.

the only down side is I have a few holes in that thing now :hiding: I hope it's not gonna give me any issues, and the weather stripping doesn't sit completely flush against the windshield either. I'm not sure if ever did, do your guy's?

Anyway on to some pics
I just used an L bracket. I trimmed one side down until i got it to be flat, then drilled it into the body of the truck and yeah...


and here is a teaser. I haven't hooked them up yet cause one of the bolts that holds the light got stripped, so i gotta go buy another one tomorrow. anyway, I think it will look sick!





hood still opens without contact on both sides! :bravo:

thanks guys! I almost gave up on this when I started breaking crap, and drilling unnecessary holes. I was cringing every single time haha. but yeah I think it's a first on the forum, hopefully not the last!!

stay tuned, I should have them up and running tomorrow. I'll get a video and everything too!

these are the spot's so I'm thinking if i aim them a little higher, it wont be too bad. It can't be worse then those crazy huge light bars on the roof??

yeah it can, lights up on the roof are a lot further away than where you are gonna have these, i would bet those will glare bad, you would have to aim them ridiculously high for them to not...
