Need *practical* advice on tires/lift/wheels upgrade

I'm a big fan of the Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift myself. It is easy to install and in the end the 4R looks MUCH better! As for tires I agree with the Revo's. I don't have the Revo2 model but I am still totally thrilled with mine. Can't go wrong there. I got my Daystar lift off amazon for under 150, I believe the link is somewhere on this forum but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

I will say tires first. You can move up one size with stock lift without any problems. If you go with spidertrax spacers, you'll need to re-screw in the front of the fender liners forward a little bit for clearance (done in 20min with a screw driver). Go for a nice ice and snow tire for the winter.

So there goes your first $800... but the the spare will fit too.

With that being said, I highly recommend the Icon front coil overs. Pricey yes- but the ride improvement is beyond words. It floats over rough roads, increases travel, handles better, etc, etc. You can crank them down to stock height or over 3" of lift. I put them in with the way they were adjusted (3") and added the rear 2" springs and shocks for a total of $1300. But if you go fronts only, you can crank them up just to level the truck off. The nice thing is that they can be added later- go for the tires first.

lock your center diff when driving in deep snow. its tractor mode. in 4x4 unlocked, you can get stuck even with snow tires.

I live up in Maine and rent a ski house every year deep in the mountains. I was looking for a good and cheap tire upgrade to get me through the deep snow and keep me stable on slick icy conditions.

I found the Mastercraft Courser MSR tire for a great price at a local tire shop, and decided to try them out.

These tires are amazing! I've driven through some pretty deep snow (around 18" in 4WH) with not a single hiccup. They're basically the Cooper Discoverer M+S generic version. You can't beat the price - $587 installed (4 tires). I also decided to upsize to a 265/70/17 for a slight lift advantage.

You sound like you'd be happy with my setup. I just lifted the front one inch with a simple Cornfed spacer kit (very inexpensive) and got a set of Discover ATR tires. Looks better with the lift and the nice tires, plus it's a beast in the snow. The ATRs are almost a hidden treasure when it comes to street-oriented all-terrain tires. I found out about them because a lot of plow guys use them on their pick-ups around here. I figured they must be on to something if they are all using them to plow snow, so I figured what the hell, I might as well try 'em out. Best tire decision ever. They are great all around tires and work really good in snow, 100 times better than the Dunlops that came on my 4Runner.

I really like the look of the Coopers, and the price seems right as compared to the Revo's. Did you upsize or stay stock? Much of a hit to gas milage?

I stayed with the original size. I don't check my gas mileage, so I'm not sure if the tires made any difference or not.

My setup... Bilstein 5100s, OME rear, BFG TA KOs in 32s... all brand spanking new with labor and 9.1% sales tax --> $3K.
