Need simple HU / CD / Aux / Steering

After doing a bit of searching here, I'm still somewhat perplexed.

I would really like to upgrade my 2004 4Runner SR5. It has the stock am/fm/cd unit. Also has the usual keyless entry and alarm fob.

My wish list would include:

1-Retain all steering wheel audio controls
2-Have aux input for seldom or occasional use. Extra control not needed.
3-MP3 capability, this is probably the most wanted option right now.
4-Simple and basically low end, nothing fancy. Satellite radio not in plans.

Any thoughts on entry level units here? I'm mostly concerned and confused with steering wheel compatibilities. We certainly want that to remain functional.

I would probably buy thru BestBuy, I bought and they installed a nice Sony for total of $140 on wife's Highlander, but that doesn't have steering controls. Just want to make sure they don't oversell something for my 4R regarding this. I have not talked to their installers at length yet, but I like to be armed with good info first.
Input very much appreciated, thanks ahead of time.
Regards,
Mark

i would suggest circuit city :-) lol.

I would suggest getting something like a pioneer, or a higher-end sony if you looking a little more cost effective

The steering wheel controls, you would need to look into a 3rd party company

I belice P.A.C. makes steering wheel controllers that are made for diff brand CD players, however they dont work on high-end pioneer nav units.

If you get a pionner BTW you can get the little steering wheel controller..
If you put it at the 2:30 position on your steering wheel, it DOES NOT become annoying..ive gotten great feedback from my customers at work that have bought them...

Have you thought about the Scion HU? it seems it would satisfy your requirements and not cost much at all. Most folks are finding them on eBay for ~$100. The newer ones are made for controlling the iPod ( I believe 2006 and later). You can buy them new from the dealer for about $250...but for that kind of money you might want to go ahead and get an after-market unit.
Look up the Scion HU here on the forum for members inputs about them. I have one and am very happy with it. I got it for the same reasons you stated.

I recommend this one from Kenwood. By boy just installed it in his '89 Landcruiser FJ62. He got it from BestBuy. Here's a pic and his truck

I listed a Scion HU for sale a couple of days ago here on the forum for $50 if you were interested, should work for you if you don't have the JBL now. Wouldn't have the audio in unless you could find the cable from a newer 4Runner or make your own.
