Totally agree about the black interior, I could almost go so far as to say I hate it. I have always had grey or tan, either always looked relatively clean even at its dirtiest, was always easy to take care of. The black always looks dirty and is a PITA to keep looking clean.

I posted earlier exactly how to get rid of dust on the back. What's a matter? Form more important than function to you? I have the same issue but dirt on the back when going offroad is no big deal.

What would your "on board pressurized air device" consist of? Tough to beat a hose and nozzle for simplicity.

Lastly they actually make a hitch mounted full width flap for dust control because most vehicles that have a back glass near the back of the vehicle has this same exact problem. Its not 4Runner specific. I had an '84 4runner with the same issue. I had Jeeps with the same issue. Pickups don't have it because of back glass location.

Getting dirty is part of the off-road experience, more dirty means a better trip.

Bring it home dirty, leave it in the driveway a few hours before you wash it to give the neighbors a chance to see what they are missing by having a car or simple SUV.

After a trail run I use my CO2 tank to air up, never thought about blowing the back window. Guess I needed to see this photo and the other comment about getting a leaf blower before I could put it together. Again -- :doh:

How do you "super like" a comment! Love it, I agree. I purposely leave my truck dirty for a couple days just to remind myself of the great time my family had getting it dirty.

I don't need a vision of a better design. Here's the neighbor's FJ on the same trip, maybe 3-4 minutes between the photo of our truck and this photo.

NOTE: NO DUST ON THE BACK WINDOW! A little dust on the FJ's spare tire & bumper.

it's a 4Runner thing. Rain-X the rear glass, Rain-X washer fluid in the reservoir, and keep the rear window up on dusty roads.

It's actually not a 4Runner thing, it's a 5th gen thing. The 2nd and 3rd gens have a rear deflector that are designed to funnel air over the back window to keep it clean. It also allows you to drive with the rear window dropped a few inches without getting exhaust fumes in the back. In the name of efficiency, the 5th gen ones do not work in the same fashion.

fair enough, but my 4th Gen did it too. and driving on a dusty road with the rear window down on my 2nd Gen created a pretty substantial mess too.

with regard to driving "with the rear window dropped a few inches without getting exhaust fumes in the back", you'll note that unlike the 4G and 5G the 2nd and 3rd Gen tailpipes were routed behind the passenger side tire. since i replaced my muffler/had a new pipe bent in the same fashion, i rarely get any exhaust fumes with the back window down.

sorry for the confusion. i meant the rear of my 4G got filthy too. of course, the spoiler design of the 5G is very similar to the 4G (compared to 2G and 3G, at least).

what did the article say? the lines of the 4G look a lot more aerodynamic to my eyes. the 5G is like a rolling right angle.

For the record.

I don't put the rear window down.

I don't use the rear washer.

When off road, the rear end and rear window get really very dusty.

Then I wash the window with the squeegee when getting gas.

Its a "new" issue for me too, my 3rd gen never had this or the stinky exhaust problem. *shrug* oh well I still love my truck

oh and today...went splor'n and guess what happened

got dusty butt
